There has always been a misconception among the public that one does not need to worry about the wind direction, but this is only half true. When shooting at targets over 1000 yards with high wind speeds (15 miles per hour or more), there will be noticeable errors. A headwind will cause the bullet to fall earlier, while a tailwind will make the trajectory flatter. There is another type of wind that is quite special, known as the upwind, which essentially can be considered as an upward air current. It usually occurs in places like canyons and mountains.
Using a sniper scope with Mil-dot reticle, the distance from one elliptical dot (Mil) to another is 3.438 MOA (Marine Corps Standard, while the Army considers it to be 3.6 MOA).
Metaphorically speaking: if an enemy appears at the second Mil-dot scale from a distance of 1000 yards in the mirror, I can immediately tell the error to be about 35 inches, and I can adjust 14 times to achieve a shot.
