     Liri is said to have been discovered by Fan Li in 493 BC, when he supervised the manufacture of sharp swords. Fan Li believed that this material was the result of the creation of heaven and earth, and so he presented it with the sword to the King of Yue. The King was grateful for the sword-making, returned the original, and named this magical substance "Li". Later, Fan Li visited skilled craftsmen to turn "Li" into a beautiful piece of jewelry, as a love token for Xi Shi. It is said that this is the world's earliest liri. In the same year, the war broke out, and the Yue people were defeated. Xi Shi was forced to go to Wu to marry, and when she left, she returned "Li". It is said that Xi Shi's tears fell on this "Li", and the heavens and the earth were moved. It is still possible to see Xi Shi's tears flowing in it, and later generations called it "Liu Li". Today's "liri" is the homophone of this name and evolved from it.
