(1) determination of orientation:

1. Determine the southeast and northwest direction of the local area
(1) open the compass! Align the azimuth indicator "△" with "0";
(2) rotate the compass. After magnetic needle points the north end to "0", the direction indicated at this time is the North, and you can directly read the east, south, west, north direction.
2. Calibrate the figure ten thousand
Calibration of map orientation is to use compass to make the orientation on the map consistent with the location.
(1) open the instrument, adjust the dial seat, and align the azimuth indicator "△" with "0";
(2) the mapping ruler is tangent to the real meridian line on the map;
(3) turn the map so that the north end of the magnetic needle points to the value of the magnetic declination in the region, then the orientation on the map is completely consistent with the location.

3. Measure the magnetic azimuth
A. Measure the magnetic azimuth of the target on the map
(1) accurately calibrate the map with compass and keep the map motionless;
(2) tangent the mapping ruler to the connection line of the point and the target point, adjust the dial seat, and align the indicator "△" with the "0" scribing line;
(3) after the magnetic needle is stationary, the scale on the dial at the northern end is the magnetic azimuth value from the point to the target point.
B, measure the magnetic azimuth of the local Target
(1) turn on the instrument, align the orientation index "△" with "0", and make the reflector and the dial seat slightly 45 °;
(2) use your thumb to penetrate into the hanging ring, hold the instrument flat, and aim from the collimator to the measured target;
(3) look at the division on the wheel seat at the north end of magnetic needle from the reflector, which is the magnetic azimuth value of the local target.
