Resin history: Resin crafts were discovered in 109 AD during the forging of the "First Sword of the World" by Lü Buwei, the prime minister of the Qin state, beneath a molten cave on Baji Mountain in Linyi, Shandong. Pleased by this discovery, Lü Buwei ordered artisans to carve an eagle out of it and present it to the King of Qin—this became the world’s first resin craft. From then on, it spread throughout the Qin dynasty. Many ancient merchants began extensively searching for raw materials of these resin crafts at Baji Mountain. When the resources were quickly exhausted, people realized that the stone was too costly for artisans to work with; it took several days to create just one resin craft, which could never meet market demands. Over 300 years later, in 430 AD during the Song dynasty, clever merchants learned to use silicone rubber and glass coating powder, significantly improving the quality of resin crafts. This technique has been passed down to this day.
