Pawn：

• King (King): The highest-valued piece in the game, with one each in white and black, is the most important piece in the chess game. Once the king is checked, the game ends.
• Queen: The second-highest-ranking tall piece, with the greatest power, able to move horizontally, vertically, or diagonally as many squares as desired.
• Rook: Shaped like a castle tower, can move horizontally or vertically any number of squares, but cannot move diagonally.
• Bishop: Head pointed, can only walk diagonally, and the white square bishop can only move on the white squares, the black square bishop can only move on the black squares.
• Knight (马): Unique in design, moves in an 'L' shape, but can leap over other pieces.
• Pawn: The most numerous, can only move forward, the first step can be one or two squares, when capturing, it can only move diagonally forward one square.

Initial position of the chess pieces

• As shown in the picture, the chess pieces are placed on specific positions on the chessboard. The bottom line goes from outside to inside in turn: horses, elephants, queens, kings, elephants, horses, and cars. The second row is eight pawns.

Basic Move Example

• The way the car drives:
• Example: A car can move directly from the initial position to any end of the chessboard as long as there are no other pieces blocking the way. For example, a white car can move from a1 to a8.
• The Elephant's Walk:
• Example: A white-squared elephant can move from c1 to h6 (assuming there are no other pieces blocking the way), because it can only move diagonally on white squares.
• The way of the horse:
• Example: A horse can move from b1 to c3, or from g1 to f3, and so on. Following the "sun" pattern, it can skip over other pieces.

Special Rules for Soldiers

• Pawn capture en passant: When a pawn moves two squares in one move from its initial position and is immediately adjacent to an opposing pawn horizontally, the opposing pawn can capture it diagonally by moving one square forward. This is known as pawn capture en passant. For example, if a white pawn moves from e2 to e4, and a black pawn is on d4, the black pawn can capture the white pawn by moving diagonally to e3 (the capture must be made immediately or it will be lost).
• Promotion: When a soldier reaches the opponent's bottom line, it can be promoted to any piece except the king, and it is usually chosen to be promoted to the queen, as the queen has the greatest power.
