From January to July, Yiwu, Zhejiang province witnessed significant growth in its booming express delivery sector, with a total of 3.67 billion packages being delivered, up 52.31 percent year-on-year, local media reported on Aug 20.
This is the second most among all cities in China and generated 10.65 billion yuan ($1.54 billion) in business revenue, up 26.11 percent year on year.
In addition, around 46 million international packages were delivered (a decline of 11.83 percent), generating about 1.3 billion yuan in revenue (an increase of 13.74 percent).
An increasing number of firms in fields such as cosmetics and textiles in Yiwu have arisen in response to the "new normal" of living with COVID-19.
Exports of products related to the stay-at-home economy, including baking tools and fitness equipment, have seen rapid growth. Since the market reopened, Yiwu has contacted more than 10,000 overseas buyers through foreign trade enterprises, associations, and other channels.
Yiwu is currently leading China's express delivery industry thanks to its many e-commerce merchants and strong business environment, said a spokesperson for the municipal post bureau.
Statistics show that a total of 350 China-Europe freight trains departed from Yiwu in H1, with the total volume of cargo increasing by 157.1 percent year on year, ensuring the stability of the Asia-Europe supply chain.
