A group of Yiwu businessmen took part in the 2023 Happy Chinese New Year parade in Dubai on Jan 14.
Some participants from Yiwu carried baskets and poles on their shoulders and shacked the rattle drums, making them particularly eye-catching.
Bao Changfeng, deputy director of Yiwu International Chamber of Commerce, said they tried to reproduce a scene of merchants from the past working on "chicken feather for sugar" barter, in order to showcase the history and culture of Yiwu's business and create a lively atmosphere for the Chinese New Year.
For the event, they prepared poles, bamboo hats, needles, threads and candies, which were used to barter with in Yiwu years ago.
Many folk artists and intangible cultural heritage practitioners participated in the event. Visitors experienced a series of activities such as calligraphy and a tea ceremony, giving them a better understanding of Chinese culture.
Yiwu is the world's largest distribution center for small commodities, exporting products to more than 200 countries and regions.
The Middle East and the Arab region have long occupied an important position in Yiwu's foreign trade structure. The Yiwu China Commodities City, the world's largest wholesale market, launched its first overseas branch - the Yiwu Market - in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on June 30, 2022.
