The Jincheng community in Houzhai sub-district, Yiwu, hosted an event on Feb 28 to showcase traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to foreign residents, aiming to demonstrate the global relevance of TCM and its cultural significance.
Participants visited a TCM hospital where they learned about common medicinal herbs like dried tangerine peel and goji berries. They observed the meticulous process of preparing these herbs, gaining appreciation for the precision involved in TCM practices.
The hospital's international service center for TCM provided diagnostic demonstrations, including the four diagnostic methods: observation, smelling, questioning, and pulse-taking. Visitors also experienced TCM treatments such as massage and acupuncture.
A highlight was the Chinese kung fu session, where participants practiced "eight-section brocade", deepening their understanding of Chinese cultural traditions.
The tour concluded at the Zhu Danxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Exhibition Hall. Here, the legacy of Zhu Danxi, a renowned local physician, was honored through displays of his medical works and remedies.
This cultural exchange allowed foreign visitors to immerse themselves in TCM, enhancing their appreciation for it. The Jincheng community plans to continue such cultural exchanges, fostering a sense of well-being and belonging among international residents and promoting an open, inclusive community atmosphere.
