The exhibition industry is hailed as the "barometer" of economic development.
Within the industry, there is a widely recognized "1:9 leverage effect" — internationally, the industrial multiplier effect of the exhibition industry is approximately 1:9, meaning that every 1 unit of exhibition revenue can drive 9 units of revenue in related industries. This includes direct industries such as accommodation, catering, transportation, communications, and tourism services, as well as indirect benefits in areas like trade, finance, and logistics.
Recently, Zhejiang Province has been making strides in the exhibition industry.
In December of last year, at a mobilization and deployment meeting to promote high-level opening-up and build a high-energy open province, Zhejiang proposed enhancing the influence and driving force of exhibitions and vigorously developing the exhibition economy.
Recently, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce and other relevant units have also taken prompt action, identifying a total of 283 business exhibitions to be held and supported in the first three quarters of 2025.
"Establishing a catalogue and encouraging exhibitions provide a platform for Zhejiang enterprises to showcase their products and technologies, while also offering global buyers a wealth of procurement options. This will promote the transformation and upgrading of Zhejiang's industries and enhance its level of opening-up," said a relevant responsible person from the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce.
"Every emerging industry has an exhibition as a carrier for its growth," analyzed Li Jian. With the Global Digital Trade Expo held in Zhejiang, it is bound to bring a series of development opportunities and benefits in the field of digital trade.
As the exhibition industry develops, two topics are becoming hotly discussed.
Topic One: Is it better to have as many exhibitions as possible?
"For startups, visiting clients one by one can be very costly. Exhibitions provide an opportunity for enterprises to acquire precise customers, as the organizers invest significant human and material resources to gather relevant clients," shared Chen Weiwei, CEO of Ningbo Chengyu Import and Export Co., Ltd.
However, for exhibition organizers, creating a virtuous cycle is far more important than holding more exhibitions.
Li Yuxin, chief curator of Wenzhou Strait Exhibition and Culture Co., Ltd., believes that the exhibition industry is one that highly values a virtuous cycle.
Industry exhibitions that are highly valued in the field often possess two characteristics simultaneously:
Firstly, there are matching clients attending. As exhibitions accumulate more experience in inviting buyers, the transaction data of buyers increases over time, attracting more sellers to participate. Secondly, exhibitors showcase products that clients are interested in.
In this way, a virtuous cycle is formed in the exhibition industry.
