Sas was founded on 1 August 1946 as a partnership of Danish, Swedish and Norwegian airlines operating intercontinental air routes to Northern Europe.
In 1989, SAS bought an 18.4 per cent stake in Texas Air, the parent company of Continental Airlines, which was later sold. Sas bought a 20 per cent stake in British Airways in the 1990s and shares a 49.9 per cent stake with Lufthansa of Germany. It also bought a 95% stake in Spain's second-largest airline, Aspen airlines.
The related history
Sas was founded on 1 August 1946 as a partnership of Danish, Swedish and Norwegian airlines operating intercontinental routes to Northern Europe. It became operational on 17 September 1946. In 1948, the three national airlines began to coordinate their operations on European routes and eventually merged to form the SAS Alliance in 1951: SAS Denmark (28.6%), SAS Norway (28.6%) and SAS Sweden (42.8%), half of which were owned by private investors and the other half by their respective governments. Sas gradually gained control of the regional markets in Sweden, Denmark and Norway by buying local carriers.
In 1952 sas was the first airline in the world to introduce travel classes, which offered discounted fares under certain conditions. Since then, the entire aviation industry has followed suit.
In 1954 sas launched the world's first flight over the North Pole. Became the first airline in the world to fly over the Arctic, and polar air routes were popular in the US in the 1950s.
Sas began using jetliners in 1959.
In 1989 SAS bought an 18.4% stake in Texas Air, the parent company of Continental,
And then it was sold. Sas bought a 20 per cent stake in British Airways in the 1990s and shares a 49.9 per cent stake with Lufthansa of Germany. It also bought a 95% stake in Spain's second-largest airline, Span Airlines.
Sas formed the STAR ALLIANCE in May 1997 with United, Lufthansa, former Air Canada, And Thai International airlines.
In June 2001, SAS's shareholding structure was changed to be owned by a newly created holding company and listed on the stock exchange, with the government holding shares in Sweden (21.4%), Norway (14.3%) and Denmark (14.3%), with the remaining 50% held by the public.
In 2004 SAS was divided into four companies: SAS SAS Sweden LTD, SAS SAS Denmark LTD, SAS Braathens LTD and SAS SAS International LTD. SAS Braathens was renamed SAS Scandinavian Airlines Norway LTD in 2007.

Airbus A330 and A340 series are double-aisle wide-fuselage medium and long-range airliners developed and produced by The European Airbus Industry Company. Airbus announced the development of two advanced double-aisle wide-fuselage airliners in January 1986 after analyzing the demand of major airlines in the world for large long-range airliners. In June 1987 it was decided to launch both A330 and A340 as one programme. The concept is: a basic fuselage has the same cross section of the fuselage, with 2 or 4 engines as the power unit, which can provide 6 different configurations covering from 250 to 475 seats from regional routes to ultra-long-range routes, improving the universality. The A330's wings and fuselage are almost identical in shape to the A340. New wings, stabilizers and a new version of fly-by-wire flight control software are used. In addition to the number of engine and engine related system, A330 and A340 models have a lot of commonality, 85% of the components can be common with each other, with the same body, just different length, the cockpit, wings, tail, landing gear and all kinds of systems are the same, these two models retain the A300 / A310 aircraft fuselage section design with high efficiency, adopted with the A320 general nose, cockpit and telex control design, so that we can reduce the development cost. The A330 and A340 models cost a total of us $2.5 billion (1986 dollars) to develop.

On 25 October 1991, the project's first model, the four-engine long-range A340-300, made its maiden flight and went into operation in February 1993. In November 1992, the a330-300, the first model of the twin-engine medium - and long-range airliner A330 family, made its maiden flight. The Airbus 330/340 series comes into service in six basic models, including the a330-200/300, the a340-200/300/500/600, and the A340-200/300/500/600. These six types of aircraft adopt the traditional common design of Airbus. The cockpit configuration is almost the same. As long as the pilots receive the same flight training, they can fly the above six different passenger planes. Pilots can also easily switch from the A330/A340 series to smaller A320s and larger A380s after a short period of training. At the same time, this common design also reduces the maintenance cost and spare stock of aviation materials, greatly enhancing the flexibility of the airline.

The A330 family of aircraft is recognized in the same class of market, with a leading market share and an expanding operator customer base. As the longest-range twin-engine aircraft in service with Airbus, the A330 has more than 60 customers and operators and has accumulated more than 5 million flight hours. In the end, the A330 took the dominant position in the intermediate twin-engine passenger plane market in the competition with Boeing 767.

The A330 is meeting market demand more closely in terms of range and efficiency, while continuing to employ high levels of technology in terms of structure, aerodynamic performance and systems. The A330 series aircraft USES lighter, stronger metal alloys and composites that reduce the weight of the aircraft and increase the life of the aircraft. In addition, the wings have been optimized for aerodynamic performance, ensuring optimal takeoff and landing performance under all conditions and improving fuel efficiency during flight at cruising speed. Advanced wings, high-efficiency engines and a large number of ultra light alloy, composite materials, aircraft each kilometer fuel consumption and each seat direct use cost have been greatly reduced. The A330 is a full member of the Airbus fly-by-wire aircraft family. The difference between the two-engine A330 and the four-engine A340 is only a slight difference in the engine controls installed on the central console. The pilot qualifications of the two planes are compatible. Cross Crew Qualification or Mixed Fleet Flying function is supported, depending on the type of aircraft the Crew is converting to.
Wing: The wing of the A330 is a computer-controlled variable curvature airfoil
Sweep Angle (25% chord length) 30 degrees. The computer manipulates the trailing edge flaps of the aircraft to obtain the best airfoil shape based on the altitude and speed at which it is flying, as well as the load conditions. This type of airfoil with automatic bending can improve aircraft aerodynamic efficiency, reduce drag, and reduce the weight of the wing structure by relieving the load borne by the wing. Wingtips are equipped with winglets. The lift-drag ratio is 40% higher than the A300. A large number of aluminum-lithium alloy and composite materials are used in the fuselage structure, truss and other components. Tail fin, each control surface, rectification foreskin, cabin floor are made of composite materials. The main landing gear is four-wheel trolley type and the front landing gear is two-wheel type. The engines chosen for the power plant, cf6-80, PW4000 or Trent 700, use advanced technology with higher compression ratio, increased intake and air volume, increased engine thrust, and reduced fuel consumption. All meet THE ETOPS180 minutes standard. The cockpit is a two-man system, developed from the advanced Cockpit of The A320. It is controlled by the side lever. There are six color multi-function displays on the main dashboard, and all performance data are displayed digitally. Besides the flight management system and electronic flight instrument system, the center of gravity management system is also added.
