“As of February 24, 56,590 people came to the market after passing the health check—one person showing one health status QR code—and the overall opening rate of the markets in Districts 1 to 5 of the International Trade Market reached 62.6%. After the opening of Districts 3, 4, and 5, the open rates of Districts 1 and 2 increased to 74.6%, which shows significant progress compared with the 50% it was open at first, and revealed the complementary advantages of commodities and buyers in the market. One-stop procurement for purchasers has resumed.
“Generally speaking, the market is running steadily, and it even has some highlights: First, online orders are, of course, numerous. For example, the Hiaulity supermarket chain in the Incubation Zone has taken advantage of its online platform and supply chain companies, and currently has an average daily shipment of 1,000 orders. In addition, Rihui Digital Products Co., Ltd. in District 2 is actively expanding its overseas e-commerce market, and to date it has received orders of millions RMB from Shopee and Lazada, two international e-commerce platforms.
Secondly, the sales of epidemic prevention and disinfection products went viral. For instance, the sales volume of goggles at District 3 witnessed a 100% year-over-year increase; some merchants in District 5 have also increased imports of sterilization products to meet the market’s needs. Meanwhile, the sales of these products have also boosted the raw material market, such as non-woven masks with raw materials and protective masks with raw materials like PVC, EVA, and TPU, and sales have increased by 30% to 40% compared with the previous year.”
When asked how abnormal body temperatures are detected in such a crowded, enclosed space as the market, Zhang Qizhen responded: “In order to effectively prevent the spread of the epidemic at the market, we have formulated a set of strict health declaration and admission procedures. The staff persons first use a detector with infrared thermal imaging to check people’s temperature when they enter the market. If they find someone with an abnormal body temperature, they must take a temperature gun and check him or her again. If their body temperature is still abnormal, the staff persons lead them to an isolation zone nearby.
“After a period of time, we found that some business operators were not strict enough with this process, but it is still a critical period for epidemic prevention and control. The majority of business operators and buyers are vigilant and wear masks, and they understand not to gather together in close proximity after entering the market. Buyers should remember to show the health status QR code, and be diligent in tracking their movement. During this critical period, we should take proper actions to win the battle against the disease.
“At the same time, in order to avoid people clustering together at the entrance of the market, we have called on business operators and buyers to prepare ‘Yixingou’ QR codes, ID cards, and Zhejiang health QR codes in advance to improve the efficiency of entry by reducing their waiting time in queues. We also remind people to protect themselves by keeping a distance of more than one meter from others when queuing up.
“Finally, we also hope that the majority of business operators and buyers will return to the market in a timely manner, cooperate with the market’s regulations to prevent the spread of the epidemic, and jointly create a safe and sound business environment.” (Translated by Zhang Jiajia, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
