Development of Makerspaces in Yiwu
Post Time: 2020-04-09
On March 24, the Ministry of Science and Technology released the list of makerspaces filed with relevant state authorities this year. Two of Yiwu’s companies, Yiwu Lugang E-Commerce Town and Yiwu WEGO Community, are on the list, which is a breakthrough for Yiwu.
Yiwu’s Science and Technology Bureau has always regarded the platforms for innovation and startups as important elements for improving service capabilities. The Science and Technology Bureau carries out special training for workers to improve the level of makerspaces, while under the professional and market-oriented guidance, the innovative operation mode of makerspaces is introduced to science and technology companies to create a comprehensive service platform with the characteristics of cost-efficient, convenient, open, and technology-driven. At the same time, competitive makerspaces are introduced to build a base for incubating companies in Yiwu, and their service brand, operation mode, and management experience will be promoted to the local makerspaces, which improves the company-incubating system in Yiwu.
Up to now, Yiwu has 11 city-level incubators to cultivate companies and 23 city-level makerspaces, covering an area of 280,000 m2, with a total of 695 companies and entrepreneurial teams with 3,659 employees, including 15 international students. They held 280 activities for innovation and entrepreneurship and eight international exchange activities for entrepreneurship last year.
