As photovoltaic technology gradually matures and becomes more economically viable, China has emerged as a leading manufacturer and installer of photovoltaic systems. The rapid growth in installed applications is inseparable from enterprises' active adoption of photovoltaic technology. As a globally leading online retailer of fashion and lifestyle products, SHEIN stands at the forefront of both fashion brands and cross-border e-commerce, and it is also a "demonstration project" for the application of photovoltaic technology. By promoting rooftop photovoltaic installations and energy efficiency improvement projects at facilities such as warehouses, and even driving upstream and downstream partner enterprises to adopt photovoltaic equipment, SHEIN is not only pursuing its 2030 carbon reduction targets but also providing insights for traditional industries such as fashion apparel on how to develop ESG and green, new-quality productivity.
Photovoltaic power generation not only meets various power demands for warehouse production equipment, lighting systems, and large fans. Some of the warehouses used by SHEIN are also equipped with energy storage systems that promptly store unused electricity during the day to meet the energy needs of the warehouses at night and during power outages, providing a green and sustainable power supply for efficient warehouse operations. Moreover, the advantages of photovoltaic power generation, such as preferential electricity prices and reduced indoor temperatures, have also contributed to the rapid promotion of rooftop photovoltaic projects. Currently, SHEIN's warehouses in more cities are continuously installing or pre-installing rooftop photovoltaic systems. The Xiyin Bay Area West Smart Industrial Park project, with a total investment of 3.5 billion yuan, plans to install a capacity of over 24MW (megawatts), which is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 10,000 tons annually.
Driven by the goals of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality," the State Council and other departments have successively issued top-level policies such as the "Opinions of the State Council on Promoting the Healthy Development of the Photovoltaic Industry." As a result, China's photovoltaic industry has developed rapidly, with photovoltaic cell manufacturing reaching world-class standards. As an important development direction for global energy technology and industry, China's photovoltaic industry has become a strategic emerging industry with international competitive advantages, hailed as one of the "new three samples" of foreign trade exports in the new era.
