1) Classified by the method of transmitting vibration, there are three types: internal vibrator, external vibrator, and surface vibrator.
The internal vibrator is also known as the inserted vibrator. During operation, the vibrating head 1 is inserted into the interior of the concrete, transmitting the vibration waves directly to the concrete. This type of vibrator is commonly used for concrete layers with a larger compaction thickness, such as bridge piers, abutment foundations, and foundation piles. Its advantages include light weight and easy mobility, making it widely used.
External vibrator, also known as attached vibrator, is a motor with vibrating function. A special base plate is installed on its bottom surface; during operation, the base plate attaches to the formwork, and the vibration waves generated by the vibrator are transmitted indirectly to the concrete through the base plate and the formwork. This type of vibrator is commonly used in the construction of thin shell components, hollow slab beams, arch ribs, T-beams, etc. According to construction requirements, in addition to the attached type, there is also a vibratory table, which is used for vibrating pre-made concrete products. The pre-made products placed inside the formwork are positioned on a platform connected to the vibrator, and the vibration waves from the vibrator are transmitted to the pre-made concrete products via the platform and the formwork. Surface vibrator is placed directly on the concrete surface, and the vibration waves generated by the vibrator are transmitted to the concrete through the fixed vibrating base plate. Since the vibration waves originate from the concrete surface, it is called a surface vibrator. During operation, two people hold the handle of the vibrator and move it as needed. It is suitable for construction projects such as concrete roads and bridge decks with moderate thickness.
2) Based on the power source of the vibrator, there are three types: electric, internal combustion, and pneumatic; among them, electric types are the most widely used.
3) Classified by the vibration frequency of the vibrator, there are three types: low-frequency, medium-frequency, and high-frequency. The vibration frequency for the low-frequency type is 25–50 Hz (1,500–3,000 times per minute); for the medium-frequency type, it is 83–133 Hz (5,000–8,000 times per minute); and for the high-frequency type, it is 167 Hz (1,000 times per minute) or higher.
Based on the principle of vibration generated by the vibrator, there are two types: eccentric and planetary. Their vibration structures and working principles are respectively:
Eccentric type: It utilizes a rotating shaft with an eccentric mass installed at the center of the vibration rod. The centrifugal force generated during high-speed rotation is transmitted to the vibration rod shell through bearings, thereby causing circumferential vibrations in the vibration rod.
Planetary excitation principle: It utilizes the rotating shaft at one end of the vibration rod. As it rotates, the conical part at its hanging end rolls along the conical surface within the rod shell, thereby creating planetary motion of the rolling body to drive the rod to generate circular vibrations.
