1. Avoid heat exposure. The sponge and rubber of a table tennis racket tend to deteriorate easily after heat exposure, reducing their adhesive and elastic properties, commonly known as 'dying'. The racket itself also tends to deform after heat exposure, affecting the accuracy of the ball strikes. At the same time, avoid contact between the sponge and rubber with gasoline, as once in contact, the rubber products will deform and deteriorate, which should be particularly noted.
Because sponge is an expanding body, it cannot be pulled or pressed too much during use. When playing in places with low temperatures, it is necessary to take appropriate measures to maintain warmth, as low temperatures can affect the sponge's elasticity. Those who use single-layer rubber and sponge boards should use a heating method such as a hot iron to melt the glue between the rubber and sponge when replacing the rubber to prevent damage to the sponge due to the replacement of the rubber. Glue can make the sponge foam and increase the elasticity, but when it is pasted to the bottom board, it should use a non-toxic specialized glue to protect both the sponge and the bottom board.
2. Prevent abnormal external forces from rubbing, touching, or squeezing. When hitting the ball correctly, the racket will not hit the table. When the racket is not in use, it is best to put it in a special racket case, and at the same time, put a wooden or plastic flat plate in the case to minimize the impact of external forces on the racket.
3. Maintain the cleanliness of the racket surface. Once the rubber surface of the racket becomes dirty, its adhesive properties will significantly decrease. For the rackets with positive rubber, you can use a clean cloth dipped in clean water to gently wipe it clean. For the rackets with reverse rubber, after each game, you must use a soft cloth dipped in clean water to wipe it clean. Be sure to avoid creating scratches on the rubber surface. Finally, apply a layer of nylon paper or thin soft plastic film on the surface.
In normal times, my specific practice for maintaining a table tennis racket is as follows: after using the racket, I wipe away the sweat stains with a dry towel, and clean the rubber surface with a wet towel that has been twisted dry. For anti-varnish rubber, I cover it with polyester paper before it is completely dry, and for positive rubber, I must wait until the surface is dry before storing it. When storing the racket, it should be placed in a well-ventilated and dry place, away from heat sources, and avoid direct sunlight. It is also forbidden to pile heavy objects on the racket. Among the table tennis tools, there are various types of rubber, but they can generally be divided into two categories: one is anti-stick, and the other is positive stick. Among the anti-stick, there are anti-varnish rubber and anti-arc rubber, and among the positive stick, there are positive rubber, raw rubber, and long rubber. Due to the different amounts of rubber, anti-varnish rubber has larger friction and surface adhesion, strong adhesion, and the contact point between the rubber and the ball is not easy to slide, which is beneficial to increasing the rotation of the ball. In order to give full play to this feature, the most important thing to use anti-varnish rubber is to maintain the cleanliness of the rubber. Do not use hands with oil to wipe the rubber. After each game, you can rinse the rubber with clean water and stick on plastic film; if there are dirty things that are not easy to remove with clean water, you can also use cleaning agents such as soap to clean, dry, and then use.
