Tassels are decorative textiles composed of ribbons and tassel ends, and belong to textile accessories. These decorative textiles made of ribbons and tassels or ends can vary in length. Common materials include rayon and polyester. The ribbon body can also be patterned to create various handcrafted accessory strings for decoration. Rayon tassels have good drape properties and can sway with the wind; they can be attached to banners, curtains, sofas, cushions, and tablecloths. Cotton and wool fabrics are thicker and have a fluffy texture; they are generally used on curtains, tapestries, rug blankets, bed edges, bed covers, and thick fabrics like sofas for decorative purposes. Polyester tassels are resistant to washing. In ancient times, they were used as border decorations on imperial curtains such as "canopies." The typical width (the sum of the tassel length and the ribbon thickness) is 2–20 centimeters. Commonly used rayon tassels are made by interweaving warp and weft threads; the weft threads are knitted using a 4-pin knitting machine into tubular knitting chains. One section interweaves with the warp threads to form the ribbon body, while another section extends beyond the ribbon body to form the tassel ends. The length depends on the intended use. Most tassels are cut into a tassel shape, while those that are not cut are called "Huilong tassels." The ribbon body and tassel ends can be the same color or different colors. The ribbon body can also feature colored stripes and simple jacquard patterns.
