Band-Aids are one of the essential first-aid medications in every household, but how exactly should they be used, and what are the considerations for applying them? Many friends are not aware of this.
Ten types of wounds cannot be treated with a band-aid:
1. Small and deep wounds should not be covered with bandages: Due to the poor absorption and ventilation of bandages, it is not conducive to the discharge of secretions and pus from the wound. It is easy to allow bacteria to grow and reproduce, causing or exacerbating infections. Especially for anaerobic bacteria such as Clostridium tetani, which are more susceptible to infection.
2. Animal bites cannot be covered with bandages: For wounds caused by dog bites, cat scratches, snakebites, insect stings or bites, do not use bandages to avoid the accumulation or spread of poison and bacteria in the wound. Immediately after the injury, use water, cold tea, mineral water, saline water, 2% soapy water, or even urine, etc., to wash the wound for more than 15 minutes.
3. Various skin abscesses cannot be covered with bandages: because the absorbency and ventilation of the bandage are very poor, which is not conducive to the absorption and drainage of pus, but rather helps the growth and reproduction of bacteria.
4. Wounds with heavy pollution cannot be covered: Some wounds with heavy pollution, even those that have already infected, or burns and scald wounds, as well as large skin scratches, cannot be covered with band-aids, otherwise it will trigger or exacerbate the infection.
5. Skin scratches do not need to be covered: Generally, if it is only a slight skin scratch, there is no need to use a band-aid. As long as it is treated with iodine or alcohol, it can prevent infection.
6. Severely traumatized, with contaminated wounds;
7. Puncture wounds from nails or knife points;
8. When the wound is not clean or contains foreign objects;
9. When blisters appear and discharge yellowish fluid after a burn.
10. Wounds contaminated or infected, with secretions or pus, cannot be treated with bandages.
