Scientific Principles:

The physical principle of the rubber band-powered aircraft is that when the rubber band is rotated in the opposite direction and pulled (exerting work on the rubber band), it gradually stretches. The rubber band stores elastic force for contraction, and this force drives the propeller to rotate (the rubber band exerts work on the propeller), allowing the aircraft to fly. The working mechanism of both the propeller and the aircraft relies on aerodynamic principles.
First, the rubber band deforms and gains elastic potential energy, and then this elastic potential energy is converted into kinetic energy for the airplane.

How can we make the rubber band powered plane fly for longer?
1 Reduce the weight of the body structure. Remove some redundant materials where the structure is not required to be too strong.
2. Use a more robust and elastic rubber band.
3. Set the wings appropriately to ensure the angle and symmetry of both wings. An asymmetric wing arrangement can cause the aircraft model to flip during flight, leading to an early landing. When the angle is larger, lift is greater, but drag is also higher. Therefore, adjust the angle properly to balance lift and drag.
4. When releasing the aircraft model, pay attention to the angle and force. If the angle and force are appropriate, it will fly farther.

   After the baby is completed, you can learn to control its flight attitude through debugging. Note that according to the manual, start with a low-power flight test, then a high-power flight, and ensure it is safe from collisions and falls. Choose a secure and open area. Flying in strong winds is not suitable.

When viewed directly from the model's head, the properly installed model should be free of distortion and symmetrical on both sides.

2. Model Adjustment 

None. In a wind or light breeze condition, gently throw the model by adjusting the center of gravity of the handheld head. Adjust the distance between the wing platforms based on the flight posture of the model. Wavy flight indicates a light head, requiring moving the wing platforms backward; a downward dive indicates a heavy head, requiring moving the wing platforms forward.

III. Power Flight 

First, rotate the propeller clockwise about 15 times. Then hold the aircraft with the right hand and support the propeller with the left hand, gently pushing it forward against the wind. Observe the flight path; a circling and ascending attitude is ideal. If you notice that the circling radius of the model is too small, make a small cut at the base of the vertical tail wing and bend it in the opposite direction. Once the flight posture is normal, perform 200 to 220 revolutions around the rubber band for high-power flight. 

The rubber band should generally be straight with a slight relaxation. I think it doesn’t matter whether it’s oiled or not; if oiled, it runs a bit smoother when turned, but the lifespan of the rubber band will be reduced.
The key issue is adjusting the aircraft's center of gravity. The method involves not tightening the rubber band and throwing it directly from hand in a windless environment. The aircraft should neither lift up nor tilt down significantly. If it lifts up, add weight to the nose. Additionally, care must be taken to prevent the aircraft from tilting sideways; if this occurs, adjust the wings accordingly.
During the competition, it is generally recommended to throw the aircraft against the wind without using too much force. Especially when the wind is strong, if too much force is applied, the aircraft will perform a somersault backward, resulting in a shorter landing time.
