Six Methods of Watering
① Leftover tea for flowers: Leftover tea can be used to water flowers, which helps maintain soil moisture and provides nutrients such as nitrogen to plants. However, it should be applied regularly and in moderation, depending on the humidity of the flower pot, rather than watering immediately after pouring the tea.

② Spreading spoiled milk on flowers: After milk becomes spoiled, water is added and used to water the flowers, which is beneficial for their growth. However, more water is needed to dilute it properly. Unfermented milk should not be used for watering flowers, as fermentation generates a lot of heat, which can cause the roots to rot.

③ Watering flowers with cool boiled water: Watering flowers with cool boiled water can make the leaves and flowers of plants lush and colorful, and also encourage early blooming. If used for bamboo, it can promote lateral growth of its branches and leaves, resulting in a shorter and denser plant.

④ Warm water for plants: In winter, when the weather is cold and water is cool, it is better to use warm water for watering plants. It is advisable to keep the water indoors until its temperature approaches room temperature. It would be even better if the water temperature can reach 35°C before watering.

⑤ Rice washing water for plants – Using rice washing water frequently on flowers such as orchids can make their branches and leaves lush, and the petals bright.

⑥ For those who grow flowers at home when no one is around, if they are away for ten to half a month due to visits or business trips and no one waters the plants, you can fill a plastic bag with water, make a small hole at the bottom with a needle, place it in the flower pot with the hole touching the soil, so the water will slowly seep out to moisten the soil. The size of the hole should be carefully adjusted to prevent rapid leakage. Alternatively, place a container filled with cool water next to the flower pot, and use a wide cloth with good absorbency—put one end in the water container and the other end buried in the soil of the flower pot. In this way, the soil will remain moist for at least half a month, preventing the flowers from dying.
Five Methods of Fertilization
(1) Sprinkle a layer of Melasite particles in the flower pot, which can promote the growth of flowers and extend the flowering period.

(2) Broken egg shells as fertilizer – crushing the shells and burying them in flower pots is an excellent method of fertilization that promotes lush growth, vibrant leaves, and beautiful flowers.

(3) Cook a small amount of soybeans and set aside. Insert three holes in each pot, place 3–5 cooked soybeans inside, covering them to a depth of 2–3 centimeters without damaging the flower roots, and cover with soil as usual.

(4) Dry and crush the discarded pig bones, fish bones, etc. prepared on weekdays, and place them in a basin or pot.

(5) Water the plants with rice washing water. Rice washing water contains trace elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium; it serves both as a compound fertilizer and a gentle fertilizer. It does not harm the plant roots, and can be used anytime as long as the pot soil is not submerged in water.

Collect fertilizer
It is not advisable to frequently use chemical fertilizers for home flower cultivation. The main nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium required for growing flowers can be collected in daily life. For example, moldy peanuts, beans, sunflower seeds, and other grains that are inedible are nitrogen-rich fertilizers. When fermented as base fertilizer or turned into a solution for top dressing, they can promote healthy growth of flowers and plants. Fish bones, broken bones, chicken feathers, eggshells, as well as cut nails and hair, are rich in phosphorus. Mixing these waste materials into old potting soil, adding water, sealing them in plastic bags, and keeping them in a corner allow them to decompose over time, turning into excellent organic fertilizer. If these waste materials are turned into a solution and used as top dressing, it can make home-brewed potted flowers have bright colors and abundant fruits. In addition, fermented rice water, water from fresh bean sprouts, wood ash water, as well as rainwater and wastewater from fish tanks also contain sufficient amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Neutralization of alkalinity
Some flowers from the south do not survive or bloom well in potted plants in the north, due to overly alkaline soil. There are various ways to neutralize alkaline soil. One method is to soak cut apple skins and cores in cold water, and regularly water the pots with this water, which can gradually reduce the alkalinity of the soil and promote the growth of certain plants.

Flower Disease Prevention
In early spring, various flowers will enter a period of vigorous growth. At this time, 1–3 applications of 1% Bordeaux mixture can be sprayed on the leaves and under the leaves to prevent diseases. The preparation method for 1% Bordeaux mixture is as follows: 1 gram of copper sulfate is crushed and dissolved in 50 milliliters of hot water; then 1 gram of quicklime is added along with a few drops of water to make it powdery, followed by 50 milliliters of water to filter out any residue. These two solutions are poured into the same container together and mixed well, resulting in a sky-blue, transparent Bordeaux mixture.

Six Methods for Eliminating Pests
(1) When small insects appear in the flower pot, three or four cotton sticks can be dipped in DDT until just enough to avoid dripping. Then, insert the ends into the soil around the plant, and the insects will be eliminated.

(2) Laundry detergent: Dissolve one tablespoon of laundry detergent in 4 liters of water, and spray it on the leaves every two weeks to completely eliminate flies and bacteria.

(3) Milk: Mix 4 cups of flour with half a cup of milk into 20 liters of water, filter through gauze, and spray it on flower leaves—this can kill lice and their eggs.

(4) Beer: Pour the beer into a shallow basin placed under the soil of the flower pot; if the snail tries to enter, it will drown.

(5) Garlic: Crush a garlic head and mix it with a tablespoon of pepper powder into half a liter of water. After one hour, spray it on the flower leaves to prevent mouse infestation.

(6) When ants appear in the flower pot, you can soak the cigarette butts in hot water for one to two days. Once the water turns dark brown, pour a portion of it over the stem and leaves of the flower, and the rest should be diluted and poured into the pot, thereby eliminating the ants.

Three Methods for Preserving Freshness
① Burn a small fire at the cut point of the rose flower, then insert it into a vase. Apply a little mint crystals at the cut point of the autumn chrysanthemum. For chrysanthemums, add a slight amount of urea or soil extract (a solution made by mixing water with fertilized soil and filtering) to the clean water used for cultivation. This can extend the blooming time of chrysanthemums in a vase to 30 days, more than 10 days longer than using plain water. Wrap white orchids with a wet cloth at night and remove it during the day to delay blooming by 2–3 days. For hibiscus flowers, first soak them in hot water for a few minutes, then in cold water. For dahlias, immerse the cut end in hot water for a short time, followed by cold water. For peonies, soak the cut area in hot water first, then in cold water. For camellias, insert them into lightly salted water. For lilies, insert them into sugar water. For gardenia flowers, add 1–2 drops of fresh meat juice to the water. For narcissus, plant them in lightly salted water at one thousandth concentration. For lotus flowers, block the pores with clay before inserting them into lightly salted water.

② When traveling far, remove the flower pot from the bottle and place it in the fruit and vegetable compartment of the refrigerator. This helps keep the flowers fresh for a long time. When you return, remove it and place it in a vase, where it will look vivid again. ③ Dissolve aspirin in water, which can extend the blooming period of the flowers kept in the bottle.
