Retransfer Printing Technology
Retransfer printers print onto a flexible, transparent film that is thermally bonded to the card - offering a high level of fraud protection. In contrast, traditional dye sublimation card printers use a printhead that prints through a ribbon directly onto the card.

Using the retransfer printing process, the Evolis Avansia uses a standard full color dye film (YMCK) to print an image onto a clear retransfer film in a "reverse image." The image is then laminated onto the plastic card surface. Your printed card is highly protected from scratching and fading by the clear film layer. Retransfer technology also delivers vivid printing with over-the-edge coverage for a wide range of plastic card applications.
The retransfer printing process produces higher image quality and allows true edge-to-edge printing, even on uneven surfaces such as smart cards. It also eliminates the white border left by even the best dye sublimation printers. These traditional card printers must leave a white border because printing out to the edge would damage the printhead.
Finally, cards printed using the retransfer printing technology are more durable and abrasion-resistant cards and offers higher fraud protection, since the film is inherently tamper-evident.
