Clothing requires a lining fabric as a skeleton. It is through the lining's shape, reinforcement, and maintaining the form that clothing can form a variety of beautiful styles.
Interlining is a specialized garment accessory used for the inner layer of clothing to provide reinforcement and to give structure, such as body and shape. It is made from a base fabric of machine-made, knitted, or nonwoven fabrics, which are then treated with (or without) thermoplastic polymers using specialized machinery. Interlining can be adhered to the fabric or non-adhered, depending on the application.
In essence, it's just the outer fabric of a garment, the lining inside, and the interlining in the middle. Generally, the interlining isn't visible, but any place that needs to be firm, full-bodied, smooth, or reinforced is covered with interlining.
(1) Lining fabric: It refers to a type of textile material used in the inner layers of various parts of clothing during the garment processing to highlight the characteristics of the garment's design.
(2) Basis: commonly known as the bottom cloth, the fabric used for weaving lining cloth.
(3) Cotton and Linen Interlining: Refers to unprocessed or only starch-treated and stiffened cotton or linen fabric, which is a more primitive type of interlining.
(4) Knitted resin carbon black interlining: Also known as wool interlining, it is made by weaving light yarns of cotton, chemical fibers, or pure wool, or a blend of wool and chemical fibers, with chemical fibers and yak hair or other animal hairs as weft yarns. The fabric is then treated with resin to create an interlining.
(5) Machine-woven resin-backed fabric: cotton or synthetic fiber pure or blended woven or knitted fabrics, which have been processed through various treatments such as scouring, bleaching, or dyeing, and then treated with resin to create a backing fabric. This is commonly referred to as resin-backed fabric.
(6) Knitted or woven thermal bonding interlining: cotton or synthetic fiber woven or knitted fabrics, which have been processed by scouring, bleaching, dyeing, and other finishing processes, and then coated with a uniform layer of thermal plastic hot-melt adhesive to form an interlining. This is commonly referred to as a woven bonding interlining.
(7) Nonwoven Thermolating Interlining: Also known as nonwoven adhesive interlining. It refers to interlining made from nonwoven fabric that has been processed with a thermoplastic hot-melt adhesive. Nonwoven interlining sewn by warp knitting also falls into this category.
The four major series of modern interlining include machine-woven resin carbon interlining, machine-woven resin interlining, machine-woven (including knitted) hot-melt adhesive interlining, and nonwoven hot-melt adhesive interlining. In addition to these, there are a variety of other interlinings and supporting products, such as tie interlining, linen interlining, waist interlining, and waist lining inserts, as well as sub-bands, pockets, and shoe and hat interlinings.
Lining is the skeleton of clothing, and good lining is the essence of clothing, especially the application of modern lining, which has unexpected effects on clothing shape and sewing technology. The role of lining can be roughly summarized as follows:
1. Give clothes good curves and body shape.
2. Enhance the stiffness and elasticity of the clothing, enhancing the sense of three-dimensionality;
3. Improve the drape and fabric feel of clothing, enhancing comfort;
4. Increase the thickness, fullness, and insulation of clothing.
5. Prevent clothing from deforming, ensuring that the original shape of the clothing remains after wearing and washing.
6. Has reinforcement and strengthening effects on certain parts of the clothing.
Industry insiders refer to interlining as the 'skeleton' and 'essence' of clothing, especially the application of modern new-type interlining, which can bring unexpected effects to the shape and construction of clothing.

The parts that use interlining include: the front piece of clothing, the inner facings, collars, front edges, back pieces, pocket openings, pocket flaps, belts, collar stands, front edges, cuffs, facings, sleeve heads, hem edges, sleeve slits, etc.
