Model introduction: Airbus A340 is a four-engine remote double aisle wide-bodied (airliner) manufactured by European Airbus. The basic design is similar to the dual-engine Airbus A330, but there are 2 more engines and 4 more engines. A340 was originally designed to compete with sound 747 on long-distance routes. A340 has less passenger capacity and is suitable for long-distance routes with less passenger capacity. But its later goal is to compete with the sound 777 aircraft in the long-range and ultra-long-range aircraft market.
  A340 began its research and development in 1988. The advanced materials, systems and avionic equipment adopted have kept Airbus a leading position in technology and innovation. This two types of machines also retains the fuselage section design of Airbus A300/A310 series models. At the same time, learn from the Advanced Aviation Electronic Technology of Airbus A320. When designing A340, it was developed together with A330 with dual engines. A330 and A340 two types of machines have great commonality. 85% of the parts can be used in common with each other and adopt similar fuselage structure, but the length is different.   In January 2006, Airbus announced the development of A340 Enhanced model-A340E(Enhanced). Due to the appearance of the remote model of the sound 777 and the rising fuel price, the dual engine is superior to the A340 of the four engines in terms of operating costs and economy. Compared with the sound 777, a340 is four engines, and the reliability of the trans-ocean aircraft is relatively good. However, due to the increasing performance of the engine, there is no obvious advantage. Sound 777's sales are better, while A340's orders are declining year by year. In 2005, Boeing had obtained orders of 154 777, but only 15 Airbus A340 were sold. Airbus claimed that the fuel consumption of A340E would be improved compared with the early A340 in order to compete with the sound 777 more effectively.

On November 10, 2011, Airbus's third quarter report officially announced that A340 would be discontinued, and its successor model would be A350. A340 received 379 orders from 48 customers, including 246 A340-200/300,34 A340-500 and 97 A340-600. The A340 of four pieces covers the 240-359-seat market, of which A340-600 is the longest in the Airbus family.
