Principle of Application: Pyroelectric sensors are a type of sensor with great potential for applications. They can detect infrared radiation emitted by humans or certain animals and convert it into electrical signals for output, thereby causing a buzzer to sound an alarm or keeping an LED light on continuously. Piezoelectric ceramics, which maintain their polarization state after electro-orientation, are known as spontaneous polarization. Spontaneous polarization decreases with increasing temperature, reaching zero at the Curie point temperature. Therefore, when such materials are exposed to infrared radiation and their temperature increases, the surface charge will decrease, equivalent to releasing some of the charge, hence the term pyroelectric. The released charge can be amplified and converted into a voltage output. This is the working principle of a pyroelectric sensor. When the radiation continues to act on the pyroelectric element, causing the surface charge to reach equilibrium, it will no longer release charge. Therefore, pyroelectric sensors cannot detect constant infrared radiation.
Experimental Cognition: Pyroelectric sensors can detect the changes in infrared energy emitted by the human body in a non-contact form, and convert it into a voltage signal for output. By amplifying the output voltage signal, it can drive various control circuits.
