Some people say our ruler is quite thin. In fact, the thinner the clothing ruler is, the better, but it must have good toughness. The bending and springback should be good, because we draw the structural diagrams on paper when making patterns. We usually use very thin automatic pencils. Our work surface is not necessarily flat, and if there is a gap between the ruler and the paper, it is easy for the pencil to break the paper, so the ruler should be thin and soft, with clear and accurate scales. If you need a thicker one, you can buy a plastic ruler at a stationery store, which is thick and cheap.
