Jadeite
The word "jadeite" originates from the jade-bird, which has very beautiful plumage. The male bird is bright red and is known as the "jade-finch," while the female bird is bright green and is known as the "jade-kingfisher." Since most natural jadeite found in nature is green and red, the term "jadeite" gradually became associated with the name of jade.
The color of jade is natural and varied, harmonizing with the natural world, symbolizing the vitality and youthfulness of all things, and is deeply loved by the Eastern nations, especially the Chinese nation.
In the 13th century, emeralds were discovered in the northern valley of Burma. Since then, Burma has been the main producer of emeralds in the world. It is said that this discovery is related to a Chinese yak carrier. On the way back to Tengchong from Burma, the yak carrier picked up the stones by the roadside to balance the weight of the items on both sides of the horse. When he got home, he looked carefully at the stones, and it seemed that they were green and could be jade. After polishing, they turned out to be green and lovely. Since Menggong used to belong to China and was under the jurisdiction of Yungchow Prefecture in Yunnan Province, some people mistakenly believed that Yunnan was the producer of emeralds.
The widespread use of jadeite as a type of jade began in the Qing Dynasty, which spans approximately 300-400 years. Although its history is brief, it is quite magnificent, and its glory quickly surpassed that of soft jade. Whether it is from the old collections of the Forbidden City or the burial items of imperial tombs, there are many exquisite jadeite jades.
