The causes of flatfoot can be congenital or acquired. Congenital flatfoot is due to the malformation of the talus and the relaxation of the ligaments. Acquired flatfoot, on the other hand, is not due to any abnormalities in the bones of the foot. It often occurs due to excessive weight, poor walking habits, long-term standing or excessive weight-bearing, or early activity after a serious illness, which leads to the relaxation and atrophy of the foot muscles and ligaments, eventually leading to flatfoot. To determine whether there is flatfoot, it should be done after the age of 2. If a child is found to have flatfoot, the following treatment should be performed:
1.Children should start exercising their foot muscles from a young age, walking barefoot on the beach or grass, curling their toes, and walking with the outer edge of the sole touching the ground, which is beneficial for exercising the lateral muscles and tendons of the feet.
2、Soak your feet in hot water, and use your toes to grab a marbles to exercise the foot muscles.
3、Avoid standing or carrying heavy loads for a long time, and frequently change positions when standing.
4、Wear orthopedic shoes or arch support insoles, which have a thickness of 2-3 cm on the inner side compared to the outer side of the sole, and the inner side of the heel extends to the arch of the foot, and is thicker than the outer side by 0..5 centimeters, which can move the load-bearing line outward from the inner edge of the foot.
5Tight Achilles tendon in infants can be corrected manually. Have the infant lie down, straighten the knee, and then gradually turn the foot inward.Back extension can relax the Achilles tendon, and it should be performed for 2-3 minutes at a time and once or twice a day.
By adopting the above orthopedic shoes and manual therapy, about 70-80% of children can recover to normal.
