National General Knowledge
1) Chessboard and Chess Pieces:
The chessboard is a square composed of 64 small squares arranged in a checkerboard pattern of alternating dark and light colors, with 8 rows and 8 columns. The dark squares are known as black squares, and the light squares are known as white squares. The chess pieces are placed on these squares to move. There are a total of 32 chess pieces, divided into two groups of black and white, each with 16 pieces. The pieces are held by the two players in a game, and they are the same types, divided into six types:
King(1), Queen(1), Rook(2), Bishop(2), Knight(2), Pawn(8)
In formal games, chess pieces are used with three-dimensional chess pieces, while in informal games, flat patterned pieces can be used.
2) Rules of the Game:
Wang: Horizontal, vertical, or diagonal moves are allowed, but each move is limited to one step.
After: It can be moved horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, with no restrictions on the number of steps. However, it cannot move over another piece. It is the most powerful piece in chess.
The car can move horizontally and vertically, but not diagonally. Generally, it cannot move over other pieces.
Elephant: Can only move diagonally. The number of squares is unlimited, but it cannot step over the other pieces. Each side has two elephants, one occupying a white square and the other a black square.
Horse: Move one space horizontally or vertically, then diagonally. There are no restrictions such as "bouncing the horse's legs" in Chinese chess.
Pawn: Can only move forward in a straight line, and each move is only one square. However, when taking the first step, it can move up to two squares directly. The method of pawn's capture is different from the direction of movement; it is straight and diagonal, that is, if there is an opponent's piece within one diagonal square, it can capture it and occupy that square.
3)Special moves:
In addition to the general moves of all the pieces mentioned above, there are three special moves in chess:
Pawn capture en passant: If the opponent's pawn moves for the first time and advances two squares directly, and it is exactly in a position where your pawn is touching it side by side, you can immediately capture the opponent's pawn diagonally. This move must be made immediately; it is invalid if done after a delay.
Pawn Promotion: Any pawn that directly advances to the opponent's bottom row may be promoted to any piece other than a 'King' or a 'Pawn'.
King's Move: At the beginning of each game, each player has one opportunity to move their king's chariot two squares in the direction of their choice, then move the chariot over the king and place it on a adjacent square. King's Move is divided into "long castling" and "short castling" based on the direction. King's Move is not allowed in the following four situations:
The king or the car has already moved.
There are other pieces between Wang and the car.
Wang Zheng was captured by the opponent's 'general'.
Wang's position is attacked by the opponent's pieces.
4)胜、负、和:"
The objective of a chess game is to checkmate the opponent's king. The rules state that when a king is under attack by an opponent's piece, it becomes "in check," and the attacking player is said to be "checking." The player under attack must immediately "respond" to the check. If the player cannot avoid the check, the king is considered "checked and mate." In addition to "checkmate," there are also "time forfeit" and "draw." A game is considered a draw if any of the following occur:
When one side moves, the proposal for a draw is made and the opponent agrees.
When both sides cannot kill the opponent's king, they make peace.
One side continuously makes a move to capture the king, and when the opponent's king cannot avoid the capture, it becomes a 'long capture'.
It is the turn of one side to move, the king is not under attack, but there is no legal move, leading to a 'forced draw'.
If the same situation occurs three times during the game, and each time it is the same side that moves, it is judged to be a draw.
5) Scoring Method:
The scoring system for chess is based on levels and points. The levels are unranked, 30-1, etc. Each level requires 100 points to be accumulated. The detailed calculation method for the points after wins and losses is as follows (note: the losing side's points are deducted equal to the winning side's points):
Tie game: If the existing points of both sides are within 10 points, there are no points; if the difference is 10-99 points, the lower-scoring side will get (10 + difference in points / 10) / 2; if the difference is more than 100 points, the lower-scoring side will get the difference in points / 4.
Low-level Fang wins: If the existing points difference between both sides is more than 100 points, the winner gets the difference divided by 2; if the difference is 10-99 points, the winner gets 10 plus the difference divided by 10; if the difference is within 10 points, the winner gets 10 points.
High-level Fang wins: If the existing scores of both sides are more than 200 points apart, there are no points; if they are 100-199 points apart, there are 2 points; if they are 10-99 points apart, there are 10-difference/12.5 points; if they are within 10 points, there are 10 points.
After playing 50 games, the score/points will tend to stabilize.
