The Function and Use of Acupoint Therapy Devices

The pigment reflected by the cupping marks is as follows: 1. Purple-black and dark cupping marks: Generally indicate insufficient blood supply, poor menstruation, and blood stasis.
2. Purple color with patches on the jar: Generally indicates cold blood stasis syndrome.
3. The jar imprint appears as scattered purple dots, with uniform depth, indicating qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome.
4. The jar seal is bright red and vivid: Generally indicates yin deficiency, both qi and blood deficiency, or excessive fire due to yin deficiency.
5. The jar seal is red and dark: indicates high blood lipids, along with heat pathogens.
6. The jar seal is grayish-white; it does not feel warm when touched, often indicating deficiency cold or dampness.
7. If there are skin patterns or a slight itching on the label surface: it indicates wind pathogen or dampness disorder.
8. Water vapor on the inner wall of the tank: indicates moisture in that area.
9. If blisters appear on the jar seal, it indicates heavy dampness in the body; if there is blood or fluid within the blisters, it is a reaction to damp heat and toxins.
Usage Instructions

1. Select the appropriate acupoints based on the condition (acupoint selection is based on the disease symptoms). The instructions for selecting acupoints are as follows:
Ashi acupoint is the most prominent pain point (not marked in the treatment reference acupoint mapping diagram). The acupoints marked in the treatment reference diagram are located along the central line of the torso, specifically on the Ren and Du meridians (see Figure 2); these are single acupoints. Other acupoints are arranged symmetrically. Only one side is indicated in the diagram, so both sides should be selected during treatment. When selecting acupoints, they can be divided into two groups according to the acupoints listed in the treatment reference diagram, with one group used each day in rotation.
2. Select appropriate containers and a comfortable position (which can include sitting, supine, lateral, and prone positions; see Figure 3)
3. Lift the piston on the top of the selected container slightly to ensure ventilation.
4. After gently covering the top piston of the container with the negative pressure nozzle, quickly pull the lever vertically several times until the skin inside the cupping device rises and the patient can tolerate it.
5. For areas where cupping cannot be performed directly (such as the spine or waist), a connector can be used (available separately). Installation method for the connector: first connect the large end of the connecting rod at one side to the large hole of the front mouth, then connect the small end of the connecting rod at the other side to the negative pressure nozzle to make them a single unit. Next, attach the front mouth to the piston-end of the cupping device, and place the cupping device on the area that needs treatment. Follow steps 4 to activate the cupping device and apply it to the body surface.
6. After the container adheres to the body surface, gently rotate the negative pressure nozzle left and right and move it backward, then press the container piston lightly to prevent air leakage.
7. Acupoint extraction can be divided into the following types:

a. Cupping therapy: The cupping is applied to the skin and left in place for about 10 minutes, 3 minutes for children, 5 minutes for girls, and 7 minutes for women. For those with delicate skin, the duration can be adjusted according to individual tolerance. The cupping should be removed when the skin at the application site becomes congested and blood-stained. If the cupping area is large and the suction force is strong, the duration of retention can be shortened appropriately. For severe conditions, deep lesions, or intense pain, the cupping time may be slightly longer; for mild conditions, shallow lesions, or paralysis, the time should be shorter. For thicker muscles, the duration can be longer, while for thinner muscles, it should be shorter. In winter, the cupping time can be slightly longer, and in summer, it should be shorter. This is the most commonly used method, and it can be applied to most diseases.
b. Cupping with a Jar Method: Also known as pushing the cup or moving the cup. Before cupping, a traditional Chinese medicine mist is sprayed on the skin of the targeted area or the cup opening to promote circulation, called “Tongluoning”. The cup is then moved back and forth along the meridians or the desired cupping lines until the skin becomes red, congested, or even blood-stained. At this point, the cup is removed. This method serves both cupping and gua sha effects and is suitable for larger areas with smooth skin and well-developed muscles, such as the spine, lower back, kidneys, and thighs.
c. Flash pot method: Pull the拔罐 back, then immediately lift it up; repeat this pulling and lifting several times until the skin turns red. This method is generally used on areas that are uneven, prone to dropping the拔罐, as well as facial areas where bruises are unlikely to form.
8. Just lift the piston at the end of treatment.
9. Treatment course: five days for children, seven days for adults. After a three-day interval, proceed to the next treatment course.
10. After using the cupping device, clean it regularly with disinfectant or alcohol swabs. Do not soak, boil, or treat with high temperatures.
11. If it cannot be pulled out during cupping therapy, please check whether the rubber plug inside the cupping device is tightly sealed, whether the negative pressure gun and the cupping device are connected too tightly, whether they are perpendicular to each other, and whether the pressure applied to the skin during pulling is excessive.

Usage Instructions

1. When using cupping, choose an appropriate position and areas with plump muscles, smooth skin, and no hair. Select cupping tools of different sizes according to the area being treated. If cupping is necessary on uneven or hairy areas, use a well-pressed circular bandage under the cuping site to prevent air leakage or use specialized cupping tools. (To be purchased separately) If the skin is dry, moisten it first before performing cupping.
2. During the initial treatment, patients should start with small cupping, using it in a gentle manner for mild stimulation.
3. After removing the cupping cups, do not change your position. When using the multi-cupping therapy, a certain distance should be maintained between each cupping session; they should not be placed too close together.
4. For patients with acute conditions such as high fever, coma, and convulsions, a clear diagnosis should be made first to avoid delaying emergency treatment.
