Pure copper is a rose-red metal. After a copper oxide layer forms on its surface, it turns purple, which is why industrial pure copper is often referred to as purple copper or electrolytic copper. Through heating, 99–99.9% purity of copper can be obtained, and electrolysis can achieve a purity of 99.95–99.99%. Its density is 8–9 g/cm³, and the melting point is 1083°C. Pure copper has excellent electrical conductivity and is widely used in manufacturing wires, cables, brushes, etc.; it also has good thermal conductivity, making it suitable for producing magnetic instruments and devices that require resistance to magnetic interference, such as compasses and aviation instruments; it possesses excellent plasticity, allowing it to be processed by hot pressing or cold pressing, and can be turned into pipes, rods, wires, strips, bands, plates, and foils.
