Dice come in various types, including 4-sided, 6-sided, 8-sided, 12-sided, and 20-sided dice. Among them, 20-sided dice are used most frequently. Let's take combat as an example to explain the use of dice.

In combat, dice are primarily used to determine if a character's attack hits, and the damage caused after a hit.

The check for whether an attack hits, simply put, uses the following formula:

Attack Roll (Close Combat) = 1d20 + Base Attack + Alpha Combat Modifier

The enemy's Defense Rating (AC) = 10 + Armor Bonus + Dexterity Adjustment Value

The phrase '1d20' means rolling a 20-sided die once. Assuming the character's base attack bonus is 2 and their strength bonus is also 2, the character's possible attack roll would be between 5 and 24. As long as this number is ultimately greater than or equal to the enemy's Armor Class (AC), it counts as a hit. Assuming the enemy's armor bonus is 5 and their agility adjustment is 1, their AC is 16.
At this moment, the outcome depends on your luck. As long as you roll a 12 or higher on a 20-sided dice, and the attack check meets the enemy's Armor Class (AC), you will successfully hit the enemy.
Next, roll a die once to determine the damage you cause. If you use a wooden stick, it usually causes 1d6 damage (roll a six-sided die, and the damage is equal to the roll). If you're wielding a giant axe, the damage is 1d12. The quality of the weapon generally determines the damage it can cause, and a giant axe is obviously more powerful than a wooden stick.
