The cultural significance of Chinese lanterns:
The overall design of the Chinese lantern reflects the traditional Chinese classical culture and the profound ancient civilization of China. The five thousand years of Chinese civilization are evident in the shape of the lantern. The crown of the Chinese lantern is golden; as is well known, gold symbolizes status and power, elegance and luxury, as well as supreme authority. The entire design of the Chinese lantern resembles a sedan chair, with the eight lights around it representing four porters, and one light at the top being the canopy. In China’s feudal society, officials of lower rank usually used four porters, while landlords used two people to carry it. This indicates what level of status the ritual of the eight-porter sedan chair of the Chinese lantern represents. Chinese lanterns are often placed at government gates and factory entrances. They represent dignity, power, sanctity, and inviolability. Perhaps more importantly, Chinese lanterns can drive away evil spirits!! They also bring good luck!!
Chinese Lamp Manufacturing:
Chinese lanterns are generally made from hot-dip galvanized steel plates, which undergo anti-corrosion treatment after production. Stainless steel can also be used, but it is more expensive. The heights of Chinese lanterns are 6 meters, 8 meters, 10 meters, and 12 meters. The tube diameters used are 140–219 mm, with hot-dip galvanizing and plastic coating. The light sources for Chinese lanterns use high-wattage energy-saving lamps, high-pressure sodium lamps, or metal halide lamps. These provide a wide illumination angle, broad coverage, strong fog penetration, uniform brightness, and a lifespan of up to 5000 hours, meeting the requirements for scattered lighting with Chinese lanterns.
Material Description:
The general materials used for Chinese lantern poles meet the Q235 standard, or are processed from steel plates exceeding Q235 standards. The lantern heads are made of aluminum or steel plates, followed by hot-dip galvanizing and plastic coating treatment (lantern heads sold in the general lighting market are not galvanized). The true hot-dip galvanized Chinese lanterns have a service life of up to 10 years. The light covers are made of PC or imported PNNA organic materials, while the bases are generally made of aluminum or iron. Fastening screws and nuts are made of stainless steel (exposed).
Production Process:
After the pole is formed, it undergoes internal and external hot galvanizing for corrosion protection. The galvanizing process includes acid cleaning, galvanization, water washing, phosphating, and passivation. The surface is smooth with no color differences, and the coating has excellent uniformity, meeting high requirements for corrosion resistance. After galvanizing, it is sprayed with plastic coating to ensure technical properties such as color tone, hardness, and adhesion.
Scope of Application:
Chinese lanterns are suitable for municipal engineering, garden lighting projects, as well as outdoor street lighting projects in government buildings, squares, factories, and villa areas.

Chinese lanterns are non-standard products, and the wall thickness and height of the lantern poles can be customized according to user requirements.
1. Flower sedan: The distance between opposite sides of the sedan roof is 1100 mm, and the steel plate thickness is 3 mm. The sedan roof and body are separate components connected by screws. The golden cup cover on the sedan roof has a straight column with a diameter of Φ89 mm and a height of 200 mm, with eight three-dimensional small steps below. The sedan body is an octahedron shape with smaller parts at the bottom and larger parts at the top. The distance between opposite surfaces at the top is 1100 mm, and the distance between opposite surfaces at the bottom is 800 mm. The side panels have a thickness of 3 mm. The total height of the flower sedan is 1300 mm. There are mounting brackets for floodlights welded inside, and two 250W circular floodlights are installed (the arrangement is up to the user).
2. Carriage door: The door is an inverted trapezoid, with tempered glass installed on the frame, and secured to the carriage body by screws.
3. Light arm: Eight pieces, made by bending equal-diameter steel pipes with Φ38mm diameter and a wall thickness of 3mm, while the light bulb holder is formed by die pressing using iron material. The PMMA light bulb has a diameter of 400mm and is pure white. It features a smooth surface, and the light bulb and the flower sedan are at the same horizontal center height. A gold cup cover of the same color as the light bulb is installed on the top of the sedan. Both the light bulb and the gold cup cover are equipped with 55W energy-saving lights.
4. Zhong Cheng: The part below the flower sedan chair, measuring 100 mm, is called Zhong Cheng. It is an octahedron with a larger top and smaller bottom; the maximum relative distance is 480 mm, which is the distance between opposite sides of the slope shoulder. Below the slope shoulder, it is a frame structure, with a relative distance between opposite surfaces of 340 mm and a height of 1100 mm.
5. Main rod: Φ219 mm, wall thickness 4 mm, height 9 meters, made of high-quality Q235A plate produced by Shanghai Baosteel. The base has wiring holes, and a reinforcement plate is welded to the flange and the rod body; the flange is 18 mm thick.
6. Base: 1,200 mm high. The upper part is cylindrical, while the lower part is a six-sided cone with a smaller diameter at the top and larger at the bottom. The distance from the top of the cone to its opposite side is 340 mm, and the distance from the base to the opposite side is 740 mm.
7. The total height of the Chinese lantern is 10.5 M, meaning the golden cup reaches the ground at two degrees. The shape of the flower sedan chair, the middle support, and the base all follow a proportional slope.
Light source and electrical equipment technical parameters
1. Energy-saving lights, with a power of 9×55W; the light sources and accessories are eligible for return or replacement within one year. The brand of the light sources and accessories is OPP. High-pressure sodium lamps, 2×250W; the average lifespan of the light sources exceeds 2000 hours, with a color rendering index of 65Ra and a color temperature of 400K. The light sources and accessories are also eligible for return or replacement within one year. The brand of the light sources and accessories is Osram.
2. Operating voltage of the light sources and accessories: 380/220V, 50Hz; voltage fluctuation: 10% of the rated voltage; frequency fluctuation: 10% of the rated frequency. All lamp heads and accessories are built-in, and corresponding capacitor compensation devices must be installed. After compensation, the power factor COSΦ ≥ 0.9.
Welding Process
The entire rod body must be free of any cracks, missed welds, continuous pores, or undercutting. The welds should be smooth and flat, without any unevenness, and devoid of any welding defects. A welding flaw detection report must be provided. The welding standard is based on GB/T3323—1989 III. The safety standards comply with the national standards GB7000.1–7000.5–1996.
Hot Dipping Galvanizing Process
A hot-dip galvanized treatment for both internal and external surfaces shall be applied, with a thickness of ≥75 μm in compliance with the GB—/T1931-92 standard. The designed service life shall be no less than 30 years. The galvanized surface shall be smooth and attractive, with consistent color; it shall not peel or flake after impact testing. A galvanizing inspection report shall be provided.
Plating process
The powder coating should utilize outdoor pure polyester powder, which features stable quality of the coating layer, non-fading, and non-peeling properties. It has strong adhesion, resistance to intense solar UV rays, and is suitable for urban areas along lakes and key saline regions. The designed service life is less than 30 years, with a thickness of ≥80μm, meeting the ASTM D3359-83 standard. A coating testing report is provided. Requirements for coating protection: film thickness must be no less than 40μm, strong adhesion, no peeling caused by blade scratches (15×6mm grid), and no detachment. The surface should be smooth and uniform in color.
