Cleaning and maintenance methods for stainless steel tableware:
1. Do not use strongly alkaline or strongly oxidizing chemicals such as baking soda, bleaching powder, or sodium hypochlorite for cleaning. These substances are strong electrolytes that can cause electrochemical reactions with stainless steel, leading to rusting of tableware.
2. Before use, apply a thin layer of vegetable oil on the surface of the tableware, then dry it over a fire. This is equivalent to using the ware.
A slightly yellow oil film acts as a “clothing” layer on the surface. This makes it easy to clean and helps extend its service life.
3. Stainless steel tableware has a lower thermal conductivity than iron or aluminum products, and heat transfer occurs more slowly. Burning without food will cause the chrome coating on the surface of cooking utensils to age and peel off. Therefore, it is strictly prohibited to burn without food.
4. Do not store salt, soy sauce, vinegar, vegetable soup, etc., for long periods of time, as these foods contain many electrolytes. If stored for a long time, stainless steel will also undergo electrochemical reactions with these electrolytes like other metals, causing harmful metal elements to dissolve out. This not only damages the utensils themselves but also harms human health.
5. Immediately wash with warm water after using stainless steel utensils to prevent oils, soy sauce, vinegar, tomato juice, and other substances from interacting with the surface of the utensils, which may cause the stainless steel to lose its luster or even develop indentations.
6. If scale formed due to hard water, wipe it clean with vinegar or a paste made from water ash and water. Then, clean the stainless steel utensils with hot soapy water.
