Common Car Horn Faults and Their Solutions
The car horn is a frequently used device when driving, and if the horn fails, it will be very inconvenient to drive.
Let's take a look at how the horn works. When you press the horn button on the steering wheel or anywhere else, current from the battery flows through the circuit to the electromagnetic coil of the horn relay. The electromagnetic coil attracts the moving contact of the relay to close the circuit, and the current then flows to the horn. The current makes the horn's internal electromagnet work, causing the vibration membrane to vibrate and produce a sound.
In many cases of horn failures, the problem often lies with the horn itself. Especially in cars with certain designs, the location of the horn installation can be defective, making it easy for the horn to get wet in the rain, leading to damage. When a problem occurs, you can refer to the following steps for inspection.
Sometimes the horn does not respond when the switch is pressed. If the horn sometimes sounds and sometimes does not, it is often due to poor contact points within the horn switch, or sometimes the problem is with the horn itself.
The hoarse voice is often due to poor contact of the plug, especially the contact points around the steering wheel, which are prone to wear due to frequent use.
First, check the fuse to see if it has blown. Then, remove the horn plug and use a multimeter to check if there is electricity here when the horn switch is pressed. If there is no electricity, you should check the horn wire harness and the horn relay; if there is electricity, it is a problem with the horn itself. At this point, you can also try to adjust the tuning nut on the horn to see if it can make a sound. If it still does not work, you need to replace the horn.
