1. Use chemicals with caution.

The potentiometer, made of synthetic resins such as polycarbonate, should be avoided from being exposed to strong chemical atmospheres containing ammonia, amines, alkaline solutions, aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, halocarbons, and other chemicals.

1. Use solder pastes with caution.

When soldering, avoid using water-soluble solder pastes, as they may have adverse effects on the metal of potentiometers and other materials.

Wiring design and soldering methods should avoid causing the situation shown in Figure 1, where the solder melts and flows onto the flat surface of the PC board, which can lead to poor contact.

1. Recommended Circuit Wiring

When using a potentiometer as a variable resistor, it is recommended to use it as a voltage divider for adjustment. At the same time, the load resistance Rl of the potentiometer should not be less than 10 times the nominal resistance Rt of the potentiometer.

In a DC circuit, when an electric potentiometer is used to regulate current, current will flow through the movable arm of the potentiometer. In this case, the resistance value may increase abnormally due to anodic oxidation. In such a situation, it is recommended to connect the terminal for the resistance value to the negative terminal, and the movable arm to the positive terminal.
