The meaning of sending combs
Together we bind our hair, using a comb as a token of respect.
In ancient times in our country, giving combs was used to determine marriage partners.
The meaning is to grow old together with you, stay entangled throughout life, and eventually separate.
In ancient times, there was a custom where family members would comb a woman's hair before she got married.
According to ancient sayings and customs, it goes: "First comb, comb all the way; second, comb the white hair and keep a proper distance; third, have many descendants in the family."
It includes both the good wishes from family and the transmission of love.
Therefore, many places have the habit of giving combs on Qixi Festival.
Origin of the comb:
Comb, also known as a comb, was also called "zhe" in ancient times. It is a tool used for styling hair, typically having a flat shape.
Combs have many teeth. Some combs come with handles, while others do not. In the past, combs were usually made of wood, such as jujube wood combs, plum wood combs, boxwood combs, as well as bone combs, tooth combs, horn combs (cow horns), and metal combs. Nowadays, most have been replaced by plastic ones. Combs with dense teeth are called "bi". Besides styling hair, some combs can also be used as hair accessories. Traditional female hairstyles in ancient China and Japan often featured combs for decoration.
A comb is a tool used for combing hair. Based on the structure of the character "梳" and the way ancient people created characters, we can guess that combs were originally made of wood.
Origin of the comb:
It is said that Fang Lei Shi, the second wife of Huangdi Xuanyuan, was a very intelligent woman. After Lei Zu, the first wife of Huangdi, invented sericulture, she also pioneered the creation of bone needles. Fang Lei Shi threaded silk threads through the ends of the bone needles to sew clothes, and the women in Huangdi’s palace greatly admired her.
However, there were some things that lingered in Fang Lei’s mind—namely, the over 20 women in the Huangdi Palace under her management, who often looked disheveled. During important festivals, she would call all these women together and use her own hands to straighten their hair. Sometimes, even her five fingers got damaged in the process. As a result, she often felt frustrated over these matters.
One year, a severe flood occurred along the Yellow River. Di Huo, who had previously invented boats for the Yellow Emperor, found nineteen large sea bream fish in the floodwaters—as thick as arms. So, Di Huo asked Tong Yu Shi, the third wife of the Yellow Emperor, to cook them for him. However, Tong Yu Shi was ill and unable to get out of bed, so Di Huo had to seek out Fang Lei Shi. Following the usual method used by Tong Yu Shi for cooking fish, Fang Lei Shi heated a stone slab and placed the sea bream on it, turning it over repeatedly. In no time, the sea bream was cooked. The cooked sea bream was so delicious that Di Huo ate four in one go. As a result, fish bones littered the ground. Fang Lei Shi picked up one bone, broke off a piece, examined it carefully, and thought it looked very nice. She used the bone to tidy her messy hair on her shoulder. At first, it was just a casual grooming, but after a while, her messy hair became neatly arranged. Suddenly, she had an idea and secretly stored these sea bream bones in a bag.
On the second day, Fang Lei called the 20 women over and distributed each broken fish bone to them. He then taught them how to comb their hair. The women began combing their hair with smiles. However, due to their lack of skill, some fish bones pierced their scalp, causing some girls to cry out in pain. Others used too much force, resulting in the bones breaking. As a result, the women started talking about how using two fingers to comb hair would be better—it is safer and also helps with itching.
The attempt failed, but it did not shake Fang Lei’s confidence. The inspiration from the fish bone gave her continuous deep thought. Until one day, she met Huangdi’s carpenter Shue’er. Fang Lei then showed Shue’er the fish bone and asked him to use wood to create a “fish bone” object. After looking at it, Shue’er decided to give it a try.
After a few days, the carpenter Shui'er turned a piece of wood into a comb that resembled fish bones. Fang Lei Shi laughed and told Shui'er that it was thicker than a finger and couldn’t be used for hair grooming. So, Shui'er took it back and discussed it with several other carpenters. Eventually, they made a comb using bamboo. When Fang Lei Shi saw it, he was very happy. From then on, the era of Chinese women using combs began.
Xianjiu Trading
Project Introduction:
A hairbrush made of unbreakable silk thread that cannot be bent—no marks after bending! The design is innovative. This type of brush sells well in the market; it can sell over 100 pieces in a single day at trade shows, which is quite attractive. Since the selling price on the market is only 3 yuan, many people find it worth buying. A batch of 100 pieces can be sold together.
II. How to operate?
1. Props:
① Sign: It reads “Unbreakable Nylon Comb!” Unbreakable, anti-static!! Special price: 3 yuan per comb, 5 yuan for 2 comb sets
② Canvas, or the type of fabric used for advertising spray paint, place it in the market or in areas with high foot traffic, then arrange the comb on top! That’s how you get started! Having a speaker would further boost sales!
It is also possible to test whether local wholesale markets or accessory stores stock these products, which could completely replace regular combs!
III. Advantages and Disadvantages:
Disadvantage: When there are many people, the comb can easily get dirty.
Advantages: It is indeed a startup with relatively low investment; generally, just a few hundred dollars are needed to start. It can be done part-time, meaning you can work it during your free time.
IV. Successful Cases:
Many of the sellers have made some money, and it was quite easy. A customer sold over 2,000 torches on the Xichang Torch Festival in a single day (of course, this required attending the event), and generally, in a market during the morning, at least 100–200 torches can be guaranteed! Many of the clients we work with currently perform very well.
5. Investment Promotion:
Many projects are seeking provincial and municipal agents and distributors. Once we collaborate, there will always be mutual benefit. Small projects, small investment—truly great!
