History of Yangjiang Knives and Scissors Development

Yangjiang has a long history in knife and scissors production, with its manufacturing tradition dating back over 1400 years. Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, more than 300 people were engaged in the production of small knives in Yangjiang. In 1955, individual producers of small knives formed four production cooperatives. In 1956, a state-owned small knife factory was established. It is one of the enterprises in the same industry in China in terms of output value, production volume, product variety, and foreign exchange earnings, and has been designated as an export base enterprise for mechanical and electrical products. After 1966, several collective knife enterprises were established subsequently, with main products including small knives, hair clippers, household scissors, and tableware.

After the reform and opening up, the knife and scissors industry in Yangjiang developed rapidly with expanding scale. By combining modern technology with traditional craftsmanship, knife and scissors products have maintained high quality, earning numerous awards and gaining recognition both domestically and internationally. The products are sold to over 100 countries and regions around the world, with production value and export value accounting for 60% and 80% of the national equivalent products respectively. Currently, there are more than 1,300 hardware knife and scissors enterprises in Yangjiang, accounting for over half of the country's total number of such enterprises. It has become a major production base for kitchen knives, scissors, and small knives in China.
