Maintenance Tips
Hats should be maintained and stored properly. After removing the hat, do not place it randomly; instead, hang it on a hat rack or clothes hanger. Do not press heavy objects on it to prevent deformation. Over time, the inside and outside of the hat may accumulate oil and dirt, which should be cleaned promptly. The lining can be removed, washed, and re-applied to prevent sweat and moisture from causing mold and reducing the hat’s lifespan. Dust on the hat should be regularly brushed off. Mud and oil stains on the surface can be gently cleaned with a soft brush dipped in warm soapy water, followed by rinsing with clean water. When washing a hat, use a round jar or porcelain basin of the same size as the hat to prevent damage during cleaning. For storage: brush off dust and dirt, let it dry in the sun for a while, then wrap it in paper and store it in a hat box in a well-ventilated, dry place. Place a desiccant in the storage box to prevent moisture. Some hats, such as those made of feathers, sequins, or have lining, cannot be soaked—they should only be wiped, not washed. If they are cotton-based, they can be washed; however, if they are paper pads, they must only be wiped, not washed, as washing will cause damage due to their three-dimensional shape. Washing machines are strictly avoided.
Washing Techniques
Washing of hats
1. Any decorations on the hat should be removed first.
2. For cleaning the hat, it is advisable to first soak it in clean water mixed with a neutral detergent for a short time.
3. Gently clean with a soft brush.
4. The sweat band section <the part in contact with the head band> should be washed several times to thoroughly remove sweat and bacteria. Of course, if you choose antimicrobial and anti-smell material, this step is not required.
5. Fold the hat into four pieces, gently remove the moisture, and do not use the washing machine for spinning.
6. Spread the hat out, fill it with an old towel, lay it flat and dry in the shade; do not hang it to dry.
Washing of special hats
1. The leather hat can be cleaned by slicing and wiping it with onion slices, or by using a cloth dipped in gasoline to wipe the hair, which will achieve good cleaning results.
2. The stains on the fine felt hat can be cleaned using a mixture of ammonia and equal amounts of alcohol. First, dip a silk cloth in this mixture, then clean the hat. Do not make the hat too wet, otherwise it may deform.
3. After washing, it is best to fill the knitted hat with crumpled paper and cloth balls, then dry it in the cool air.
4. Wool hats should not be washed, as wool will shrink. If the hat gets dust or pet hair, use wide-tape and fold it over your finger to apply it, which can remove surface dust. Wool hats do not need to be cleaned every time; doing so may actually shorten their lifespan. If cleaning becomes necessary, dry cleaning is the most appropriate method.
