2017 aluminum alloy, the 2 series aluminum sheet is characterized by high hardness. Among them, the copper content is the highest, approximately around 3–5%. The 2 series aluminum sheet belongs to aerospace aluminum materials and is not commonly used in conventional industries at present. There are few manufacturers in China that produce this type of aluminum sheet, and its quality cannot compare with foreign standards. Currently, imported aluminum sheets are mainly supplied by producers from South Korea and Germany. With the development of China’s aerospace industry, the production technology for 2 series aluminum sheets will further improve.

2017 is a typical hard aluminum alloy in the aluminum-copper-magnesium series. Its composition is reasonable, and its overall performance is good. Many countries produce this alloy, making it the most widely used hard aluminum. The characteristics of this alloy include high strength, certain heat resistance, and suitability for working parts below 150°C. When the temperature exceeds 125°C, the strength of 2017 alloy is even higher than that of 7075 alloy. Its formability is good under hot conditions, annealing, and post-quenching states, and the heat treatment strengthening effect is significant, although strict heat treatment requirements are needed. Its corrosion resistance is poor, but effective protection can be achieved with pure aluminum coating; cracks are likely to occur during welding, but special techniques can allow welding or riveting. It is widely used in aircraft structures, rivets, wheel hubs, propeller components, and various other structural parts.
