From its composition, 2014 aluminum alloy belongs to both hard aluminum alloy and forged aluminum alloy. Compared to 2A50, it has higher strength and better thermal strength due to its higher copper content. However, its plasticity at high temperatures is inferior to that of 2A50. The 2014 aluminum alloy possesses excellent machinability, along with good performance in contact welding, spot welding, and roll welding. It performs poorly in arc welding and gas welding. It can be heat-treated to enhance properties, and there is an extrusion effect.
Used in applications requiring high strength and hardness (including high temperatures). Aircraft components, heavy forgings, thick plates and extruded materials, wheels and structural elements, fuel tanks for the first stage of multi-stage rockets and spacecraft parts, truck frames and suspension system components.

Sample dimensions: Rod diameter (diameter of the inner circle for square rods or hex rods) ≤ 22
1) Homogenization annealing: Heat to 475–490°C; hold for 12–14 hours; cool in the furnace. 2) Complete annealing: Heat to 350–400°C; the holding time varies depending on the effective thickness of the material, ranging from 30 to 120 minutes; cool in the furnace at a rate of 30–50°C/h down to 300°C, then air cool. 3) Rapid annealing: Heat to 350–460°C; hold for 30–120 minutes; air cool. 4) Quenching and aging: Quench at 495–505°C, water cooling; natural aging at room temperature for 96 hours.
