2024 aluminum alloy is a high-strength hard aluminum that can be strengthened through heat treatment; the 2024 aluminum alloy has good spot welding properties, but tends to develop intergranular cracks during gas welding and TIG welding; after cold working and hardening, the 2024 aluminum alloy still retains decent machinability. Its corrosion resistance is not high, so anodic oxidation treatment, painting, or applying an aluminum coating on the surface is commonly used to enhance its corrosion resistance.

The forming properties are good under all states—status, annealing, and post-quenching—and the heat treatment enhancement effect is significant, though the heat treatment process requires strict adherence to specifications. Corrosion resistance is poor, but effective protection can be achieved through pure aluminum coating; cracks are likely to occur during welding, but welding or riveting can be performed using specialized techniques.
