By using a compass, you can align the map with the actual terrain to determine your current location and the direction to your destination.
The compass must be held horizontally and kept away from the following items to prevent the needle from becoming disoriented: the compass should be at least 10 meters away from barbed wire, 55 meters away from high-voltage lines, 20 meters away from cars and airplanes, and 10 meters away from items containing magnets, such as magnetic containers.
Steps to determine your current location using a compass:
① Make the actual terrain and map direction consistent.
Find two targets that can be seen on the map.
③ Point the compass's direction line (or the long side) toward one of the target objects.
Find the circle that matches the arrow and the pointer (North).
⑤ Do not change the direction of the circle and place it in the northern position on the map.
The tip of the long edge of the compass aligns with the target on the map.
Draw a straight line from the arrowhead of the circle to the extension of the magnetic north line.
⑧ Repeat the same method for another target. The intersection of the two lines is the current location.
Use a compass to find the direction to go.
① Make a straight line that aligns with the long edge of the compass to the destination.
② The arrow pointing to the circle is parallel to the magnetic north line (the arrow is located at the top part of the map).
③ Take the compass off the map and hold it in front of your body.
Twist your body until the arrow and the pointer overlap.
Step 5: Overlap the line directions to equal the target direction of the map. Make sure the compass is held horizontally and away from any magnets. The white side of the compass points north. Twist your body to align the north direction on the map with the north direction on the compass.
Red represents the south, white represents the north. Place the compass flat, let it sit and slowly rotate until the 'South' on the dial lines up with the red pointer. Then you're good with the directions!!
Uniform, find the landmark building nearby, and once you find it on the map, you'll know your current location.
