Jigsaw puzzles have a history of about 235 years. As early as 1760, this popular and beneficial form of entertainment emerged almost simultaneously in France and England. A picture is glued onto a hardboard and then cut into irregular small pieces. Initially, these images were all educational, either with short stories suitable for young people to read, or teaching history or geography to the emerging bourgeoisie.

In 1762, during the reign of King Louis XV of France, a salesman named Dima began to sell map puzzles, achieving modest success. This type of map puzzle requires the pieces to be reassembled, making it a very elegant form of entertainment. In the same year, in London, a printer named John Spilsbury had a similar idea and invented a puzzle toy that has lasted for a long time. He ingeniously stuck an English map to the back of a thin table, and then precisely cut the map along the edges of the counties. This idea could bring huge wealth, but poor Spilsbury did not receive this money. He only lived to the age of 29 and was unable to see the great success of the puzzle toy. The true significance of his success lies in the fact that he opened two important markets for his invention: the emerging middle-class consumers who craved knowledge and status, and the strict and harsh British schools of his time. Spilsbury lived in an era where being able to read a map was a symbol of gentility. The great travel activities pushed the puzzle fever to its peak, which was a grand live puzzle activity, detailing the entire European continent. In this sense, the puzzle toy is a way to use puzzle pieces to study the geography of the entire continent.mdashmdash countries, principalities, counties, cities, towns, rivers, etc. Knowing the map as well as having one's own homepage was as proud as it is now.
