there is an ancient legend circulating in Turkey. Long, long ago, there was a witch with a pair of evil eyes. As long as people or things were stared at by her eyes, they would immediately turn into stones. Later, people pressed the witch under the stone pillars on the ground, dug out her eyes and made large and small pendants to ward off evil spirits.
