Elastic Woodpecker Course Presentation: Elasticity, Gravity, Friction

1、Elasticity

 (1) When an object is subjected to force and deforms, it can restore its original shape when the external force is removed, such as springs and rubber bands. This property of the object is called elasticity.

 (2) Definition: The force generated by an object due to elastic deformation is called elastic force.

 (3) Size: The magnitude of the elastic force produced by the same object is proportional to its deformation size.

 Direction: Perpendicular to the contact surface, pointing to the direction of the object's restoration of deformation.

 The principle of a spring scale: within the elastic limit, the greater the force applied to a spring, the longer it will extend.

 （6）Spring scale force meter usage method and its precautions:

  a. Observe the zero scale, the measuring range, and the gradation before using the spring scale force meter.

  b. Check the pointer before use to ensure it is aligned with the zero scale, and if it is not, adjust it to zero first.

  c. Before use, gently pull the hook back and forth a few times to avoid the spring from being stuck by the shell;

  When using it, the force measured cannot exceed its measurement range.

  During the measurement process, the direction of the applied force should be aligned with the axis of the spring scale, to avoid significant measurement errors caused by friction between the spring and the housing.

2、Gravity

  （1）Definition: The force exerted on an object due to the attraction of the Earth is called gravity.

   (2) Size: The magnitude of the force of gravity on an object is proportional to the mass of the object, i.e., G = mg.

  Direction: Always vertical down.

(4) Center of gravity: The point where the force of gravity acts on an object is called the center of gravity of the object.

3. Friction

（1）产生条件：

  a、Two objects in contact with each other, with a rough surface.

  b. On the contact surface, there is a compressive force between the two objects, which means pressure is generated.

  c、Two objects must have or have already experienced relative motion.

Definition: When two objects in contact with each other are moving relative to one another (or even when they are not moving but have a tendency to move relative to each other), a force that opposes the relative motion will arise at the contact surface, which is known as friction.

(3) Size: It is related to the size of the pressure exerted on the surface of the object and the roughness of the contact surface.

 a. When investigating the factors that influence the friction force of a slide, the control variable method should be used. When measuring the friction force, the wooden board should be pulled at a constant speed, and the friction force should equal the pulling force using the knowledge of two-force balance.

 b. Methods to increase friction: increase the pressure; increase the roughness of the contact surface; replace rolling with sliding.

 c、Methods to reduce friction: reduce the pressure; reduce the roughness of the contact surface; replace sliding with rolling; separate the contact surfaces, such as adding lubricants, air cushions, or suspensions.

(4) Direction: Opposite to the relative motion of the object.

 Friction may be opposite to the direction of motion of an object (for example, the friction a rolling football experiences on the ground), or it may be in the same direction as the object's motion (for instance, the static friction experienced by an object on a belt pulley).

（5）Action point: The force of friction acts on the contact surface. When drawing a force diagram, the action point of the friction force can be drawn on the gravity of the object.
