A small medicine bottle (with a stopper), scissors, water, a syringe or rubber bulb pipette, a plastic bottle with a mouth larger than the diameter of the medicine bottle, a glass bottle with a mouth larger than the diameter of the medicine bottle, an rubber film, rubber bands, etc.
Section Three: Teaching Process:
1. The conditions for the buoyancy and sinking of objects
Demonstrate and operate: Teachers and students find common items around them, judge their floating or sinking in water based on their life experience, and then verify them one by one by putting them into the water.
Discussion: Some objects sink to the bottom of the water, some objects float to the surface and eventually float on the water, and some objects eventually suspend in the water. Does the object that sinks, such as coins and stones, not feel the buoyancy of the water?
Students discuss and conclude that objects sink because the buoyant force is less than the gravity, while objects float because the buoyant force is greater than the gravity.
2. Demonstrate and introduce the buoyancy and sinking of the buoy
Teacher Introduction: An object that can both float and sink according to the conditions of floating and sinking is called a buoyancy device.
The teacher demonstrates two methods of changing the buoyancy of a small medicine bottle to make it float or sink, as shown in the diagram, to stimulate students' interest.
Question: By observing and guessing, what do you think changes to make the small bottle float or sink?
Students guess: change buoyancy or change gravity.
Hint: Observe how the submersible achieves descent and ascent by carefully examining the amount of water in the small medicine bottle during the ascent and descent process.
Discussion results: By changing the weight of the small medicine bottle by adding or reducing the amount of water in the bottle, it can achieve buoyancy and sinking.
The teacher briefly introduces the concept of air pressure, allowing students to understand why squeezing the bottle or pressing the rubber film can make water enter the small medicine bottle.
3. The Production Process of Buoyancy Indicator
① Use scissors or other tools to make a small hole in the center of the bottle cap of the small medicine bottle, which is convenient for the water to enter and exit.
Step 2: Remove the bottle cap, pour in the appropriate amount of water, then replace the cap, and use a dropper or pipette to drop a small amount of water, ensuring that the small bottle just floats to the surface about 1-2mm.
Pour water into the large plastic bottle, but do not fill it to the top.
④ Put the small bottle into the plastic bottle and check again whether the small bottle just floats on the surface.
Cover the large plastic cap, squeeze the bottle body to observe whether the small bottle can sink or float. If not, adjust the amount of water in the small medicine bottle or the plastic bottle until the experiment is successful.
Take another glass bottle and fill it with water, making sure that the water level is about 2cm from the lid.
Step 7: Place the adjusted small bottle into the glass bottle, and secure the rubber film with an elastic band at the mouth of the glass bottle to ensure its airtightness.
Press the rubber film with your fingers and observe whether the small bottle can sink or float. If it cannot, adjust the amount of water in the small bottle or the water in the glass bottle and the rubber film until the experiment is successful.
4. Students engage in hands-on activities with teacher guidance.
5. Group presentation of experimental results, exchange of production experiences, teacher's comments
