This course introduces the static electricity of objects.

The purpose of the experiment: If the process of generating static electricity is difficult to neutralize during separation, the charge will accumulate, causing the object to become charged with static electricity. Therefore, when an object comes into contact with another object and then separates, it will become charged with static electricity.

Matter is composed of molecules, which are composed of atoms. Atoms are composed of positively charged protons and negatively charged electrons. Under normal conditions, the number of protons in an atom is the same as the number of electrons, resulting in a balance of positive and negative charges, so the atom does not exhibit an electric charge. However, when electrons orbit the nucleus, they can be displaced from their orbits by external forces, leaving the original atom A to acquire a positive charge due to a decrease in the number of electrons, which is known as a cation; atom B acquires a negative charge due to an increase in the number of electrons, which is known as an anion. The cause of an imbalance in the distribution of electrons is the displacement of electrons from their orbits by external forces, which include various forms of energy (such as kinetic energy, potential energy, thermal energy, chemical energy, etc.). In daily life, any two objects made of different materials that come into contact and then separate can generate static electricity. When two different objects come into contact, they can cause some of the charge, such as electrons, to be transferred from one object to the other, making it positively charged, while the other object acquires some of the remaining electrons, making it negatively charged. The attraction of opposite charges causes the foam particles to stick to the cup.
