Pond lilies, also known as bowl lilies or pot lilies, are lotus plants grown in bowls or pots, which are displayed on tables in rooms to beautify the living environment.

Pond lilies can be sown throughout the year, as long as the water temperature is maintained at 16°C.

   Seed Treatment

   The shell of bowl lotus seeds is relatively hard, so it is necessary to treat the seeds to improve the germination rate. The end of the lotus seed has a small sharp point, while the other end is round. Grind the round end on a rough concrete ground or use a file to make a small hole.

   Soak seeds to stimulate germination

   Soak the seeds that have already cracked shells in warm water. It is best to change the water 2 to 3 times a day.

   Bud Transplanting

   Choose a pot without a bottom hole or a plastic flowerpot. Fill the pot with half a pot of garden soil or river or pond mud without chemical pollution. Soak the soil for two weeks in advance, but do not apply fertilizer. When transplanting, press the fine roots of the small lotus seedlings into the mud. Each pot should be planted with one plant.    You can buy some sand from a pet store and slowly pour it into the tank, spreading it over the mud. The sand should be added in stages. Pour it once, wait for the water to settle, and then add more until the entire tank is evenly covered. Once the sand is added, the water will clear up quickly. After changing the water, you can also add a few fish to the tank. The fish can eat the insects in the water, and the feces can fertilize the flowers, which can be both decorative and beneficial. It's a win-win situation.

• Do not injure the embryo of the seed when handling it, and do not remove the shell.

• Soak the seeds and germinate them at a water temperature of 20-40 degrees. If the water temperature is higher than 40 degrees, the seeds may germinate rapidly on the first day, but their growth will be inhibited thereafter. If the water temperature is lower than 20 degrees, the seeds will germinate and grow too slowly.

• Soak and germinate seeds, and timely remove seeds that cannot germinate. Generally, germination will occur within 7 days.
