Oil filter, also known as oil grid, is used to remove dust, metal particles, carbon deposits, soot particles and other impurities in the oil and protect the engine. The oil filter can be divided into full flow type and split flow type. The full flow filter is connected in series between the oil pump and the main oil passage, so it can filter all the lubricating oil entering the main oil passage. The split flow filter is connected in parallel with the main oil passage and only filters part of the lubricating oil sent by the oil pump."  They are mainly used for internal combustion engines of motor vehicles, power aircraft, railway locomotives and ships, as well as static engines such as generators and pumps. Other vehicle hydraulic systems, such as those in automatic transmissions and power steering systems, are usually equipped with oil filters. Gas turbine engines such as those on jet aircraft also require oil filters.
