Schneider Electric SA is one of the world's top 500 enterprises, founded by the Schneider brothers in 1836. Today, its headquarters are located in Louvain, France. Schneider Electric is a leader in the field of energy efficiency management, providing comprehensive solutions to the energy and infrastructure, industrial, data center and network, building, and residential markets in more than 100 countries. It has a strong presence in the energy and infrastructure, industrial process control, building automation, and data center and network markets, and also has a strong market capacity in the residential application field. In the 2012 fiscal year, Schneider's total revenue reached 24 billion euros, and it has more than 140,000 employees in more than 100 countries.
As a leading expert in energy efficiency management and automation, Schneider Electric, with a history of nearly 180 years, has continuously innovated and advanced in its development. Since establishing its first joint venture factory in Tianjin in 1987, Schneider Electric China has been rooted in China for nearly three decades. From being the leader in the medium and low voltage power distribution and industrial automation industries, Schneider Electric has developed into a provider of life-cycle energy efficiency solutions for customers in five major markets: energy and infrastructure, industry, data centers and networks, buildings, and residential. It helps these customers improve their energy efficiency by up to 30%.
Currently, China has become the second largest market for Schneider Electric. In China, Schneider Electric has 26,000 employees, 3 major research and development centers, and 1 Schneider Electric Training Institute. Additionally, there are 26 factories, 8 logistics centers, 5 subsidiaries, and 40 offices spread across the country.
Tracing the development of Schneider Electric in China, in 1987, Schneider Electric established the first joint venture factory in Tianjin, Merlin Gerin, bringing circuit breaker technology to China, replacing traditional fuse, which improved the electrical safety of Chinese users and contributed to the establishment of circuit breaker standards.
In the early 1990s, the Schneider Electric brand CEE Switch panels were introduced into China, marking the end of the era of using light cord switches in China.
With the further opening of the Chinese market, the pace of Schneider Electric's integration into China is accelerating. Schneider Electric, with its technology and products, has fully participated in many Chinese energy and infrastructure construction projects, including providing equipment and services for major projects such as the Three Gorges Project, the West-to-East Gas Pipeline, the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and the Ling'ao Nuclear Power Plant.
In recent years, through continuous efforts in the field of energy efficiency management, Schneider Electric has emerged as a leader in many significant domestic and international events. In 2008, Schneider Electric provided products and solutions for 43 venues and supporting facilities in Beijing; in October 2009, Schneider Electric provided reliable power security for the 60th anniversary celebration of China; and in 2010, the Shanghai Expo, Schneider Electric provided solutions and services for four pavilions and for 23 Expo venues.
Schneider Electric, while growing together with the Chinese economy, has also been actively fulfilling its social responsibilities as a corporate citizen. Since 2000, Schneider Electric has donated over 100 million yuan in cash and materials to social institutions in China, with nearly 10 million yuan in donations from its employees. Schneider Electric has planned and executed a series of social responsibility projects, including the Bibo Plan, the Luli Project, emergency relief projects, and university projects.
It is understood that the BiBo Plan is being carried out by Schneider Electric, which provides the safest and cleanest energy to the most needy people in society. At the same time, it uses electrical-related education and training to help poor youth acquire professional skills and open up a new chapter in their lives. Since 2009, the BiBo Plan has successfully implemented various projects in China, including funding vocational schools for migrant workers' children, public welfare scholarships for college students, new energy assistance projects for electric-less villages, and rural electrician training programs. By 2013, the BiBo Plan had supported the establishment of electrical laboratories in 8 vocational technical schools across the country; through the establishment of public welfare scholarships, it had supported over 800 poor college students from 10 universities to complete their studies; and through solar energy solutions, it had provided safe and clean electricity to over 600 households in the electric-less areas of Yecheng County, Kashgar, Xinjiang, and 3 primary schools, benefiting nearly 5,000 villagers.
The Luli project is initiated by the Schneider Electric Headquarters Foundation, a corporate social responsibility initiative of Schneider Electric. It aims to promote the company's corporate social responsibility culture and philosophy among all Schneider employees, and to improve the health and educational conditions of poor children through employee participation. Each summer, Schneider Electric organizes a one-week "Luli Public Welfare Activity Week," encouraging employees to participate in public welfare activities in various forms. Since its inception in 2000, the Luli project has funded the establishment of 9 Hope Primary Schools in China, and has made numerous donations to schools in poor areas, orphanages, special education schools, and children's welfare institutions, as well as carrying out projects such as medical aid for poor children.
In 2010, Schneider Electric officially established a volunteer team and became the first foreign enterprise to be awarded the "Energy Saving and Efficiency Promotion Volunteer Team" title by the Beijing Youth League Committee. Currently, it has more than 500 employee volunteers who have conducted numerous volunteer activities such as teaching, visiting migrant worker schools, visiting orphanages and elderly homes, and returning to visit powerless villages in Xinjiang, with a total volunteer service time exceeding 30,000 hours.
In addition, to support the cultivation of talent in the electrical field and scientific research innovation, Schneider Electric launched the University Cooperation Program in 2006. To date, it has donated a total of 50 million yuan in funds and experimental equipment, and has established joint laboratories with 21 universities across the country, covering 11 industries such as power, metallurgy, petroleum, and solar energy. The program has collaborated on the compilation of 13 textbooks, and nearly 10,000 students learn in the laboratories each year. At the same time, Schneider Electric has also been committed to promoting energy-saving concepts in universities and promoting the construction of green campuses.
